oh my florin

Hey everyone thought I would post over here to share some of my recent acquisitions. Recently been buying ancients particularly ones from my heritage and the first my namesake.

The first coin is a Silver Tetradrachm of Alexander the Great of Macedonia minted in Pella the capital of Macedonia with only six varieties of tets being attributed here it is even rarer to find a lifetime issue which this one is. With those six varieties reducing to four Lifetime varieties from Pella it is already hard to find them but to find them in EF certainly isn't cheap. I paid $1467 for this coin.

The second coin is a Bronze unit of Kassander of Macedonia this coin was minted as an emergency issue in Asia minor just prior to one of the greatest battles of the Diadoch's, the Battle of Ipsus. It was minted over an Alexander the Great unit which still shows some of the detail (the helmet over the bowcase is one of those details and elements of the shield on the other side.) It was minted over these coins due to a shortage of bronze at the time for the manufacture of weapons and armour. This coin is only one of 5 coins confirmed to exist and subsequently sold over the past 14 years and has increased in value from $266 in 2012 to $760 in 2013. It is estimated that less than 20 of this example exist with no other varieties of the design. I paid $353 for this coin.

Overall I am very happy with the coins and just wanted to show them off to you all :yahoo:

nice looking coins
I was looking at these sorts of ancient coins on the week-end at our local coin show
they are striking and do catch the eye ... and some are somewhat hefty on the wallet though!
