Xanthorrhoea, commonly known as the grass tree, old name was black boy, but hanged it cos people thought that was racist, the name came from the appearance of the tree and its flower spike looking like a spear "hey being a horticulturist pays off"

There was considerable hubbub concerning the placement and design of the reverse of the $2 coin when it was first introduced; because one of the slang terms for the grasstree was "black boy", placing it alongside an aboriginal elder was seen by some overly sensitive politically-correct types as being insensitive and derogatory. The HH designer's mark "branding" the elder's armpit was also complained about by those same people at the same time.

The HH mark was removed in subsequent years; the grasstree was not.
