So, now that a number of countries have tactile markings on banknotes, including several customers of NPA, and with a complete redesign of our notes coming real soon now, why is the RBA refusing to make life easier for the blind?

If they can mark other people's polymer notes in a variety of ways, why not our own? Systems vary, some being easier to use than others (I especially like the Canadian markings, which make perfect sense to anyone, including people who don't know braille), but all are better than our nearly-identical notes, and this should be a no-brainer, no?

I thought we led the way with different sizes and colours to help vision impaired people (although, my mother, who is legally blind has great difficulty differentiating the colour of $5 and $20 notes).
Seems to be an Australian trait -be a world leader or invent something better then sit back and let others overtake us (or sell the rights away from Australia).

I wonder why the resistance to this simple feature? How hard can it be?

Thinking is dangerous, it makes you think. That\'s why many people avoid it.

Colour doesn't help someone who can't see it. And the size differences are no good unless you have different denominations to compare to.

We do have a talent for dropping the ball, don't we? So much is invented here, then implemented by others to our detriment. Makes you wonder...

Mister T

I think I read a while back that notes differing in length by at least 7mm (which is what our notes currently do) was what some organisation promoted but something like this seems easier.
