My brother has found 2 runs of sequential $50 notes.

Both are 2010,

Prefix CJ has a run of 10

Prefix CM has a run of 15

They seem new to him, they are still pretty rigid he says.

Are these worth much over face, its it worthwhile breaking into smaller lots or keeping the sequence whole.

Thanks in Advance.

Hi Cruzi,
Unfortunately they really arn't worth anything over face value.
It is quite common to get them that way out of an ATM. In fact I'm guessing that is how your brother got them.

From what I have seen consecutive notes only really add value when they are predecimals.

Cruzi

No worries, will pass on the news to him.

Thanks.

:i_agree: with roo, you'll hold them for a long time before they gain :(

I have a few "sets" of these as well. Say I did hang onto them. What grade would they be? aUNC or UNC? Or just EF? No marks on them whatsoever. They did come out of the ATM in bunches but haven't been folded or used in any way at all. Apart from the ATM operator putting them in the machine, I'm the first recipient of these notes. Went straight from my purse to my coin/note folder. Could they be loosly classified as uncirculated?

Yep. CFU - Crisp, Flat, Uncirculated. Most notes out of ATM's are like this, as they feed them bundles. Notes from banks however tend to have teller flicks, and would grade aUNC or worse.

So according to the McDonalds guide 2014 for the above notes (BF06 for example) for General Dated prefixes for 2006:

Fine --> $50
VF --> $50
EF --> $50
aUNC --> $60
UNC --> $120

So the notes that I have would be worth $120 each? If so, then it kinda disproves the comments above about holding onto them or am I misreading the guide? My notes have no teller flicks, tears or creases/folds and are as crisp & flat the day they were printed. They still have the new money smell to them.

Maccas Catalogue value is only a guide, it's unlikely that you'd get those prices if/when you sold them, particularly if they are just run of the mill serials.

The ones you would get better prices for are first and last serials, RADAR's, and a few other types of collectible serials.

:agreed: supply most definitely outstrips demand for decimal notes, especially polymers. Catalogue prices might be what dealers try and charge, but there's no way we mere mortals are ever going to get that.

That said, I tend to hoard radars, repeaters, first/last prefixes and any CFU notes I come across. not because I expect them to ever be worth a premium, but because I like them. If push came to shove, I'd likely only ever get face value for most of them.

Of course the other side of that coin is that I'd never pay above face for them either. :dodgy:

The prices in maccas for decimal notes is way way off. Id be spending an UNC 2006 note if it were me.

I recently got 2 lots of 3 Unc 2012 $5 from the self serve checkout at Woolies and have spent all of them as the serials were just run of the mill.

Yes, I get that the serials that I have are run of the mill and probably not worth anything except face vaule right now. :agreed:

I wonder if that was said when the old pound notes where printed way back then too. lol Yeah I know the qty's printed were small compared to what they are today. Everything is relative I guess. :)

Absolutely. It all comes down to supply and demand though. If you're going to stash common stuff away for more than half a century on the offchance it will become desirable, well... honestly there are better places to put your money.

We really have to differentiate our collections, which require one of a given item, from hoards intended to be disposed of at a profit.

Me, I'd rather turn that lazy cash into sacks of coins to noodle, because I know I'm going to find treasures in every single sack. Can't say the same about my notes, even the more valuable ones. So a $100 test note is worth $200... great. But $100 of $1 keepers is likely to be worth double that, and can be disposed of individually. Much better value, IMO.

Yeah I know... :dead_horse:

I just find it hard to spend new notes and the new shiny coins you get in change. Eventually I'll spend 'em tho. Hopefully it will be on other coins rather than bills... lol :biggrin:
