1938

1937

The 1938 is a proof (not my coin unfortunately), the 1937 is a circulation issue (and is mine).

Thanks everyone.  PPH and I have collaborated on some entries regarding the crowns.  I'd hope some of you might have something to add to them or pick some holes in them.  Post your thoughts here.

One of my late Uncles told me how much these coins were disliked,
the main reason was, they were responsible for making holes
in pants pockets,
The coins were very hard to get in & out of fob pockets.
You can imagine how much weight there would be, if, for example, you had 9 pennies, 5 half pennies, a florin or two plus a crown all in your pocket, not forgetting keys.

Ladies also had an issue if they carried a small purse.

I have heard very similar stories as to why large US dollars fell out of favour in the 1920's and 30's.
