Downtime last Saturday (16 August 2014)

Last Saturday afternoon / evening this forum was down for a few minutes due to some sort of issue with the server.  I rebooted it but this didn't appear to fix the issue so I've upgraded it to a larger capacity machine (more RAM, CPU, disk, and bigger network pipe) which seems to have sorted the issues out.  Right now I don't know why we had the problems and given complete lack of time on my part we probably never will.  However, I will spend a few hours this week hardening up the security on the server just in case it was some sort DDOS attempt on the forum.

Thanks to AJ for emailing me about the issue.  Sadly I was half way through my second beer of the night when the problem occurred and I didn't actually answer his email.  Tip to all, don't drink and sysadmin.  Not a good mix.

EDIT:  PPH tells me it was Saturday.  Must have drunk a bit more than I realised.

gee mate if I'd know that I wouldn't have sent it sorry..bloody hell cuttin in on drinkin time is gettin close to sacrilege so please forgive me :beg: but as long as it sort of helped sort the problem it's all good so my pleasure mate :hi:
