I am starting to stockpile these 1985 sets and trying to work out whether I should be removing these coins and saflipping them like I do with my late 60's and early 70's UNC sets as I  haven't seen any of the 1985 sets that show any PVC damaged coins yet.Is it PVC covering the coins?

I think the plastic in these is inert and quite hard ( I have been known to be wrong tho)
I have cracked open a 1984 set that was an awful yellow looking thing and the coins inside were totally unaffected :ok:

Maybe I should leave them intact until I have all of the facts

Fordprefect

From 1984 the RAM mintset coins are enclosed in P.E.T plastic bubbles,
much tougher stuff than saflips or 2X2's.
No PVC is present

I'd say the 1985 sets are the same which is what I wanted to hear

While we are on this subject, All those $1 coins in the crappy unsealed cards most certainly do need putting in 2x2's or saflips.
These DO tone rather badly over time and they are really hard to get without being damaged due to the "Shoddy" way they are packaged  :dash1:
