Downies

Saw this nice looking coin in the glossy Downies mag and thought it looks pretty cool. Would be really nice as a medal, but it's actually:
1. Legal tender of a country I had to google (Tristan da Cunha)
2. No idea what Mint of origin
3. No mention of an obverse!

One thing interesting is that the portraits all face the wrong way. I would have thought they should have faced them more accurately.

So demand is going to be high with this worldwide  limited mintage of just 999 coins for this coin struck from base metal precisely plated with precious silver!  (insert sarcasm here)

And if you think you might spend it when you're visiting, no you can't, wiki tells me that they use British currency so how much is ten crowns then?

Been reading the history of this country now, what a yarn!

Sounds like a lovely place.  Total population of 264 people, only 8 different surnames on the island, everyone is descended from the same 15 ancestors and there's inherent health problems due to the lack of genetic diversity.  Oh and there's no way of getting on and off the island, no air service and no regular sea service.

And you forgot about the explosive volcano that saw the entire country evacuate for 2 years and they only got television in 2001.

The Commonwealth Mint was making 'coins' for them and some other uninhabited islands under their control, but I don't know if it still does.-John
