Finally got one.
Has a weak strike on the KG so not ideal but it will do.

Nice. I saw that coin at a recent auction, well, I assume it's the same coin. Not too many about, and I reckon it was cheap.

There were quite few scarce to rare varieties on offer in that auction that didn't sell.

So is the variety just a filled mint mark or an actual die missing the PL? I'm assuming the PL was on the hub as it's position seems fixed (unlike the Perth dot). The weak KG supports a filled die (or some grease/oil on die).

Don't know the answer to your question Neal, but this example posted by forum member Ford Prefect some years ago looks to be fully struck up with no weaknesses as far as I can determine. Yet, the mint mark is missing.

The second coin is one I found on Canada ebay about 17 years ago.

I always assumed it was just fill - no one has ever tried to argue otherwise that I have seen.
