Here is a dirty 1942 penny, but is it just "a penny" it was minted in 1942 during the 2nd world war, so it could have seen action in New Guinea, it could have been carried in the pocket of an American soldier stationed out here to fight the Japs, later in it's life it perhaps been carried by a Prime Minister maybe even Sir Bob Menzies had it in his pocket. Maybe it was part of a haul by Darcy Duggan.
This ordinary penny could have travelled from State to State.
If only it could talk & tell us of the transactions that it has been involved it, perhaps a kid bought a pennies worth of lollies, part of the change from a News Paper.
It looks like it's been handled  by quite a few people shows a bit of grim.
But this simple penny.
Here I sit broken hearted paid a penny and only far*ted.

This is why I love coins.. history ! Well said !
Collecting coins is not about having the best, but loving what you have ...

Forgot about that. Yes, I remember the toilets on the country train platform area at Sydney Central Station having a coin slot in each cubicle door.
As we age we lose three things, one is our memory and arrrrr I've forgotten the other two!

if it's missing the I under the King's bust then it is even more interesting!
