Does anyone have any information about the frequency of the different obverse sizes and versions of the IRB on the 2001 $1 (CoF and Volunteers) and 2001 $2 coins? How many different combinations were placed into circulation?

Mister T

For the centenary of federation coins at least I've read that the I R B is mint set only. I've found one I R B in change which looks like it might have come from a set (it's well circulated but still has spots of bright shininess) but I continue to look.
I have only found I R_B volunteer coins and have never seen an opinion on whether I R B volunteer coins exist at all or not.
For the $2 coins I've found 16% I R B and 84% I R_B.

Hercules

What about I_R_B (with both letters joined)? I'm sure I found that on a 2001 $2 coin a while ago, but I don't remember where I put it.

Mister T

Woops might be getting mixed up - I think the $2 coins are I R B and IRB (not I R_B), but the I R B is the less common one anyway.

Hercules

Based on my experience, most 2001 $2 coins are I R_B, with I_R_B being scarce. I haven't found any I R B ones yet, but I'll keep an eye out for them. :good:

Mister T

Maybe I need to recheck my 2001 $2 coins but I think there are only two types.

Hercules

The problem is that most of them are so heavily worn that it's impossible to tell which type they actually are. :dash1:

Mister T

I find the 2001 10c pieces are the worst - both types look so similar.

Hercules

It's funny you should say that. I find that the 2001 10c is the ONLY 2001 coin where I can reliably tell the difference between the IRBs. :laugh2:
