The obverse says "Olympics Year".  The reverse says "to the years turn" or "end" I guess.  "Mayers Kunstpräge - anstalt Pforzheim" can be loosely translated to "Mayers Art Mint Institute - Pforzheim".  Pforzheim is a city in south west Germany.  Presumably Mayers Art Mint Institute refers to Mayer mint in Pforzheim. I imagine they struck all sorts of medals for the 1972 Munich Olympics, this is probably one of them.

Thanks Mark.......when I put the word into Google translate it came up with:

"At the turn of 1971/72 Mayer's art stamping institution Pforzheim- olympiques jair"

Which did not help.  Maybe I put it incorrectly into Google.

You have helped a lot so now I can investigate further.

Mayer's Kunstprägeanstalt is a private mint in Germany that has produced a number of official commemorative coins on behalf of the Reserve Bank of NZ/NZ Post in recent years.  If there are still any mysteries around this item or its origin, googling the German name should help.
It would appear to be a New Year's token produced by the mint, and marking the fact that the "New Year" of 1972 was when West Germany was to host the Olympics.
