Regardless of which way you end up taking, I wish Mr RG all the best with the op and you both safe and stress free travels.

As someone who has been driving around Sydney since 1969, I think the best advice by far is what you have already been given - a train to Central, then a cab to St Vs. Cheaper than driving (when parking is considered) and less stressful.

An alternative if you want to avoid the cab - a bus from Central along Elizabeth St to Liverpool St, then another bus along Liverpool/Oxford St to St Vs. That would be the cheapest alternative, but personally I'd still cab it for the convenience.

Hey Neil you are a treasure! We came over to Sydney this week end and because today is a quieter public holiday we just drove into the hospital following your directions.  Thank you so much xxxxxxxxxx

Quote from: 'Unicorn' pid='103232' dateline='1483143560'Back in Sept 15 when I went to Sydney Eye Hospital (right eye retina detach & cataract) I took the train from Taree to Central. I walked the (several) blocks to there. I think St Vincents would be about the same walk but in the other direction, but there's a million cabs waiting at Central if you need one. The next morning after surgery I took a cab back to Central (didn't want to stress the eye too much). From memory it cost around $15 (which the driver got in aUNC 2005 Dancing Man $1 coins).

A few years prior when the retina in the left eye detached Mrs Uni drove us there and it was much more of a hassle than catching the train was.

As I suffer from extreme anxiety and panic disorder, to me, taking the train was the lesser of the two evils.

UNI I THINK THE HUBBY IS THINKING ALONG THE SAME LINES WITH MY PANIC in the city traffic! !!
