Interesting post over on CCF re the RCM.
Just mentally replace RCM with RAM and Canada with Australia

It covers 6 bullet points and all bar #5 could apply to RAM and Aussie coins.
Not real sure about #3 either, but most of it rings true for RAM.

Of course it's not just RCM & RAM that are doing this, just about every mint has jumped on the bandwagon.

Yep,same from me,the thing that puzzles me is they just keep churning out this crap and then dumping excess a couple of years later to US based Dealers.
Surely they know enough about marketing to know that sales don't just slow down when people loose interest, they fall off a cliff and collapse and its extremely hard, and often impossible, to gain the momentum and credibility back.

I have used the same words to describe how other businesses have been (or are being) run.

Short term goals (eg profit now), are often at odds with long term goals (eg profit in the future).

It seems that often "short term" goals are met at the expense of long term viability.

JeffH

Great example is Dick Smith. The new owners had policies to make the company look as good as possible with a view to selling it in the short term and making a fat profit.
Long term viability was not a consideration in that scheme. However they managed to kill it first. What they probably deserved but, unfortunately, they took down a lot of employees with them.

P.S. Is the proposal to sell the Mint a short term or long term goal?

That sounds a lot like our Government.
Thinking is dangerous, it makes you think. That\'s why many people avoid it.

You answered your own question. ;)

Also, Dick Smith wasn't wrecked by the new owners when they bought it from Woolies. It was wrecked after they offloaded it onto the market. They made out like bandits, and probably sowed the seeds of the demise, but most of the damage was done post-float by incredibly stupid management decisions.
