I like this one, the southern cross shield and Australia map are cool.

Again, any ideas on value?

Thanks Mark & RG. Gee compared to that one I can't see any bronze on mine at all. (I thought it was straight copper).

Oh well, back to it's box with that one.

they are quite nice
I have a couple of similar from token lots
but like most of my stuff, I do nothing with them as they are an interesting historical item but not a 'çoin' as such
and then these sorts of celebratory tokens are issued by every council or country in a myriad of ways which makes them somewhat 'common' in collector terms
you really have to know the tokens and medallions scene to know if you have a scarce or rare one
but the one consistent thing I have noted about these sorts of items is the higher the grade the more $ value they have - though at times that isn't necessarily a lot of $$$ either!

It's listed in the Carlisle medal catalogue as C1901/37. Minted by Stokes and Sons, total mintage 100,000 which is a huge number for a Queensland medal from that time. Yes, they were originally gilt-plated-copper, though other metals known are solid nickel, solid silver and silver-plated-copper. The $10 price listed in the 2008 priceguide assumes EF grade with full gilding.

Thanks for the extra info Sap. I don't have a Carlisle's so I really appreciate the lookup.

Wow, what a huge mintage!

RG, totally agree with the value comments, there's many a coin / token that I'd get more for, so it's not even worth listing it on ebay. :-/

Regardless of the mintage and value this is still a nicely designed piece of Australiana.
Thanks for sharing Mate. :good:

no worries
that seller is a good one for medallions and proper market values
when I saw it was his listing I felt confident to post the link

ps I think he has a silver one listed as well

The Medallion arrived today and I am quite pleased with it,
It is a lot bigger than I thought it would be ( about the same size as a round 50c) and the Gilding is pretty much intact, even the edge of the Medallion is still gilded :good:

Here are a couple of images under differing lighting conditions .
