I am as patriotic as the next Bloke and I have served 6 yrs in the Australian Army But this proliferation of war themed coins produced by the RAM and the Perth Mint and once again for the newspapers is getting beyond the joke.
There is NO way that these coins are a tribute to our fallen or the Men/Women that have served anymore, This is all simply about making a quid now and even increasing newspaper sales for Christs sake.

No wonder I no longer have that much interest in the new decimal offerings if this is what they are going to continue doing.
The Mint sets and the in come the dollars/cents sets were a refreshing small interlude in this bombardment of churned out mass produced War "Memorabilia" type coinage in all different shapes , sizes, Metals  and denominations.
I will continue to collect meaningful or attractive releases But I am so "Over" this War crap being churned out over the last year and I suspect will hopefully end in 2019 .

OK

Yes it's gone well beyond a joke and totally agree it's just a huge money grab and using peoples heart strings to do it :( Don't worry there's plenty more wars etc to keep them making money for the rest of time so just wait 'till they get to the wars like nam and afghanistan and the like that lasted twice or three times as long as WW1 or 2 so won't that be fun. I wouldn't have so much of a problem if the money made went back into helping our returned and their families as the f$%#ing government have no intentions and they're the ones that send us while sitting in their nice cushie office and their sons and daughters never get to the front lines :@

Indeed, the sheer number in the last few years indicates "milking it for all it's worth". When that theme starts falling off there will, no doubt, be another populist theme to replace it.
I certainly don't think this type of promotion helps coin collectors and the number of new collectors it may attract to our community is rather doubtful.
Edit. P.S. It is probably better than the newspaper token/medallion issues we have seen in the past. At least these coins have a currency declaration.
Thinking is dangerous, it makes you think. That\'s why many people avoid it.

I think it's to show murdoch that buying the mint would be a good investment for him :@

And on top of the 14 NewsCorp coins there is another 15 50c coins being released by the RAM for a total cost of $199.00.   All with a war theme.

I suppose they will leave the 25mm dollars alone as they have already got over 50 different ones of these so far for 2016.

I normally spend 20-30K on coins each year.
RAM didn't get much of that last year and they will be getting even less of it this year as well.
There are Far more interesting coins out there for me to buy than the Trivial Crap that has been churned out of RAM for the last few years :ok:

:agreed:
The trouble is for all the dedicated decimal collectors out there it is becoming increasingly difficult not only to source the multitude of new issues But funding them is now pretty much out of reach for the average collector.

Thank you AJ, I am going to have to investigate this further and see what I am missing from the sets.

I dont want to get into the $1 coins, I have seen and heard too much on the forum that says to me to stay away from them.
