Pedro

Hi folks,

Not too far down the track it would appear that the services of a stamp dealer may be necessary to facilitate the disposal of a stamp collection of a relative of my wife.

I am looking for recommendations for stamp dealers in Melbourne for the purposes of potentially valuing a stamp portfolio and arranging it's sale. I have never seen the collection in question although I understand that it has been put together over many years and is probably sizeable.

Thanks.

Robster is always looking for stamps! Collections can be very valuable or amazingly disappointing!
I have a large collection of my Grandfathers that I have spent the last two years sorting, have spent much more on new albums etc. than it is worth but felt like I should keep it in the family.
The owner of the Australian stamp forum 'Stampboards'  is Glen and he will pay cash for worthy collections and although in Sydney will travel to other states!
When you see the collection you can get a feel of value by looking at prices on ebay and stamp dealer sites! As per coins rarity and quality are important. I have found the journey fascinating mainly due to history involved.
Stanley Gibbons catalogues can be viewed at libraries to help you but catalogue values are similar to coins with only the premium stamps reaching top values!

I have purchased from Michael before and he has been very easy to deal with.  How big a collection are you talking about?  I am always chasing KGV era stamps

Pedro

Thanks guys.

BJA - I'm going on word of mouth from relatives who are non-collectors (haven't seen the collection myself) and I'm afraid I can't describe or quantify the extent of the collection. Sorry I can't provide more information at this point.

Thanks, I know that but his business of Max Stern still lives on through his son/grandson.

I am sure that Max Stern's as a business name has not changed.

Yep. That whole area is being demolished for one of the stations. MAx was extremely upset about it when it was announced, and said it would probably mean closing down.
