I was wearing joggers that had very little wear, but the soles had gone really smooth and they slipped on the varnished treads of the steps and I went skidding down and my arm was through the railings. My body went down, but my arm got tangled in the railings and went backwards at 180° from my body. Most of my back was covered in bruising.

The Ambos gave me morphine for the pain and then knocked me out with ketamine before moving me into the vehicle. I remember none of this fortunately, but my son gave me a description of what happened.

Home for the day today and same again tomorrow, going to the PAH for review next Tuesday.

Sounds very painful Nancy. I'm glad they knocked you out.
Hope you are recovering OK.

Good to hear the Ambos (I have never heard this term before -- so thanks for updating my English vocabulary) gave you the good stuff.

Hope your recovery continues well.

ooh, I felt sick after hearing that description. I hope it is coming good.

Thanks to all for the good wishes!

Finally came home yesterday, no more hospital involvement, but I do have to get signed up for on-going Physio treatments.

Just had my first cup of coffee since the fall occurred. :yahoo: Only tried one sip of Hospital coffee, ugh!

Spiral fractures of the humerus are apparently very painful and it's possible that full healing could take up to 12 months, but so far I'm coping
OK with the pain and only needed one pill for pain overnight to cope, which I hope I can soon do without.

At least the worst of it is over now.

Good to see you're on the road to recovery Nancy, so now to grapple with the many tasks which will need to be performed left handed  . I once broke my right collar bone, I know exactly what they are.
As we age we lose three things, one is our memory and arrrrr I\'ve forgotten the other two!

I've had a few breaks in my time. Worst was fractured humerus* with bits of my elbow joint floating around. Three operations and a steel pin later I was ready for months of prescribed exercises to restore movement. 67 years later still slightly restricted movement in that arm but I never really notice it anymore.
*Not funny at all.
Most painfull was a couple of broken ribs -laughing was definitely off the menu!

Glad you only need minimal painkillers Nancy. Pain with movement is a warning so it sounds like you might be going well.

Best wishes for a quick recovery,
Jeff
Thinking is dangerous, it makes you think. That\'s why many people avoid it.

Glad to hear that the worst is over, Nancy.

Best wishes for a full recovery.

Best wishes for a speedy recovery. As a person who had many sporting injuries and a car accident back injury, I know the journey is not easy. Unfortunately recovery takes time, take it easy.
