2005 fifty cent piece

How much is the 2005 fifty cent piece really worth?
It has a world wide mintage of 30,000 but only 5,000 released in Australia
& current Maccas value as a PNC (as it's the only way this can be bought) of $150.00
Or $100.00 BIN on ebay.

To have a complete set of fifties in my Dansco's I've had to rip open one of the PNC's.

Even if 10,000 of these coins made it to Australia thats still a very low number & I guess a lot of people would not rip the PNC apart to get to coin.

In a few years this will be a very hard coin to get hold of.

I think I managed to get hold of 4 at the time. Given 2 away as pressies, and have 2 consecutive numbers left. One of these folders has a nice diecrack on the 50 p English piece, running from the Queen's neck to the rim.

I think I bought a couple from Downies at the time, don't know what I did with them, but vaguely remember them being single coins in little cello or plastic bags.

The only way as far as I know to secure the 2005 COA 50c Piece was to purchase the special World Heritage PNC/Envelope that came out with the 50p English coin.

There was a bundle of 100 of the envelopes for sale on EBay recently.

I agree that it is an intriguing release to have a 50c COA that can only be found in the PNC.

I doubt that it will become a great rarity though. The 50p coin which also came in the PNC was released into circulation in the UK so the Australian coin is the only hard to get one. That means if the prices rise then more of the 25,000 released overseas will find their way home.
