Australian coin

yeah but when someone says clean, i just imagine someone rubbing it, or putting fingerprint and wot nots on it, if you knew how to clean or improve it without actually rubbing it, then i don't see a prob, does acetone affect a proof frosting ?

No.
Thinking is dangerous, it makes you think. That\'s why many people avoid it.

Hello,

Has anyone tried an Ultrasonic cleaner ? It should loosen mould and stains as opposed to marks left by a chemical reaction.

Yes. My comments can be found here...RE: Tarnished coin cleaning

5 rubles

I placed a glass jar in a cheap plastic "ultrasonic" cleaner, stuck it down with blue tack. Then some chamois in the bottom to create a soft non abrasive bed for the coins topped with about 2cm of acetone. That speeds up the cleaning from 5 hours to 15 minutes for the same result. The cheap cleaner does not really oscillate at ultrasonic speeds but keeps the liquid in motion to enhance cleaning action. The acetone gets dirty so it has to remove something from the coins, mainly PVC.

hmm...i might crack open the 1970 proof set and try acetone on it.. whats the worse that can happen? :dodgy:
