Just wondering if you think it's worth starting a petition for Greg for the release of the mint figures earlier as they might listen to a publisher if he had a petition from us coin collectors as well, as the government is likely to listen to a disability pensioner..I know it's a long shot so any thoughts?

Maybe I'm wrong but I thought that the mintages were released to relevant government departments pretty soon after July but are only released publicly in the first week of November.

Yes, the figures for circulation coins can't be known until after the publication of the Mint Report. The bean-counters in the bureaucracy aren't going to change the way they do things just because a few crazy coin collectors want to know the mintage stats sooner.
Waste no more time arguing what a good man should be. Be one.

Maybe they could be accessed with a Freedom of Information request (though I don't know how expedious that would be, or whether coin mintages would be considered sensitive enough to prevent it).

I would suspect the FOI request would take several months to be fulfilled, by then the report would have probably already been released.

Treasury is a business
the RAM works for Treasury

we are collectors
a publisher is a private business

A FOI might not be effective for a business in confidence question?

I would have thought that any classified information would be exempted from such requests but would the information be considered classified at any level? It all gets revealed eventually anyway.

robbiegal

i don't know really - just thowing my thoughts out there

i would assume that treasury decisions are in part financial and in part political as the amount of money in circulation has something to do with inflation and stuff like that

not an economist

but just some of the oldies that i know who were at the Mint have talked about having meetings with the Treasury Dept about things like mintage, packaging etc and they had to follow the directions given by Treasury - regardless to their advice that perhaps some directions were dumb
