so is that the cover that you buy at the expo
whereas the other ones were through Australia post?

Hi RG love your avatar.
These were all available from the post office
But, these were all from the expo each cancelled on a different day using a different cancellation stamp & colour, So you had to go each day. & be the 92nd person standing in line. LOL.

robbiegal

keen number 92 collector (I like the numbers 52 and 64 and subsequently have a lot of 1952 and 1964 pennies)
I can see the line now, with the collectors working out places (the ones who are more collaborative, that is)

I know the first day releases at shows are very popular and often very pricey if sold on, as well
thanks for your pics

my avatar is from pictures of flowers from AJ's garden that he posted here - a close up pic
I liked the way the little flowers looked cute - so I gave them eyes and they came to life instantly!
& I reckon they look like they are from out of space and not AJ's back garden!

Quote from: 'emu666' pid='31054' dateline='1381803666'The early first day covers are crude compared to the modern ones but a great pick up Purple Girl.

The best thing about pre 1970 covers is the postmarks were applied when and where the postmark says.
Modern covers by AP are pre cancelled at the Melbourne philatelic bureau in order to have them on the PO shelves on the stamp release date.

Some of these modern postmarks were never in use outside the bureau.
The postmark on the lifesaving pnc is a good example of this.
Bondi PO  never had that PM in use.

Some people tried to get a PO set up in the northern pylon for the 75th bridge Ann like they had back in the 1932 opening.
Did not happen due to OH&S issues

I collected FDCs in the 1980s and they were all stamped at my local post office
