I noticed the above cased coin in a pawn shop today. I find no reference to it in my World Coin book. The coin is .999% silver, minted in Pobjoy, and certified by NGC as proof, but no designation (Pr-65, etc). Only 5K were minted and this coin is coin #1224. It is in a slab and cased in a black case approximately 8" x 8". There is a NGC slab #, but I didn't write down the number for reference. What would be a fair price to pay for this very nice coin?

haha I do a bit of a look up for ya

This 5 Crown proof commemorates the 150th Anniversary of the Penny Black postage stamp. Shown on the reverse is the said stamp, depicting Queen Victoria. This coin was struck in a revolutionary darkened proof finish, that gives the centre of the coin a pearl grey appearance

Thanks for the info Aus. coin, much appreciated. I didn't see any 5 oz coin info or price for the .999% silver Penny Black. The price for the one in the pawn store is U S $644....sort of high.

I know for the 1 oz coin the 'black' disappeared over time.
