I am not having a go at the  TPG involved here and I might be totally wrong but I don't think this is a proof.  The lustre is all wrong for proofs that I have seen.  It has the lustre that a an ex-roll circulation strike coin would have.

I'm not prepared to comment on the coin, only that the photos are too blurry to comment on anything other than the lustre.

Yes a very blurry photo like that doesn't help so I think I'd want to see it in hand first.

The price is a bit stiff as well. Purchased a raw '63 proof last month for under $60 from a reputable dealer (Sterling and Currency). APCGS isn't reputable and my shilling looks as nice as this one without the risk that the slabbed coin isn't what the label claims.

Gee ya done all right there Neal, well done mate..I want more proofs now :good:

Thanks ausjack.
I'm not really into proofs and only decided to bid on it because its my birth year. Also nice to have a few proofs to compare against the regular strikes.
Someone last week got a cheap '61 proof shilling, had hairlines on the obverse but as it sold for only $23 (I should have bid higher).

If you don't mind me asking was it at sterling as well?? I'm serious, anyone see's any going cheapish please let me know :ok:

No,it was a seller by the handle of Zony. I purchased a 1956 proof sixpence a few months ago, decent coin (especially for $80) but nowhere a top of the pop coin. He put up a few collections on PCGS set registry, both circulation and proof,so I assume these are the 2nd string coins that he didn't need for hisregistry set.

I think I'm out for top of the pops anyway so I'm happy with what ever I can get at a decent price so I'll keep an eye out, thank you.
