I have noticed that there seems to be a lot more interest now than there was 5-10 years ago in collecting decimal coins.
Maybe its because finding good quality Pre decimals has become so expensive to collect or its a case of "Been there Done that" with pre decimals and collectors are looking for something new.
I am one of the been there done that mob and only started on decimals a few years ago and am enjoying every minuet of it :)
It may also be because most of our decimal coins can still be found "Noodling" in good nick and can be acquired at face value :good:
How do you lot see this ?

I only started collecting coins about 4 years ago and did the pre decimal thing first and started to look a bit harder at the decimals about 2 years ago.The last 6 months has seen me sending my better coins over to PCGS and I am enjoying seeing the results and have been lucky enough to get some really good grades with some even the highest known grade. It just encourages me to dig through my decimal mint and proof sets to rescue the best examples and send them off to PCGS which is going to take some time cost wise but I'm looking forward to it

Also noticed that the majority seemed to have moved to decimal.! Will be interested to hear the reason for the choices.!! Perhaps a 'circulated' set of pre-decimals is no longer considered relevant for the majority of younger collectors who didn't know the thrill of a sixpence worth of 'mixed lollies'. :wavemulticolor:

I have pre-decimals, mostly sourced from local stashes, deceased estates etc. I also have a decent amount of New Zealand, Pacific Island nations, USA and Canada coins; mostly from sorting bulk lots and a surprising number of newer types from circulation locally. Also, nearly forgot, do swaps too to trade duplicates for space fillers with other collectors; including members here.
But, mostly decimals and I buy very few. My main source is noodling and my aim is to make as good a set as possible from circulated coins.
You might say I am an original style collector as opposed to a "granny bait" (trout's words, not mine) buyer!

Each to their own and I am sure there are much less than six degrees of separation between the types of collections we have. (Plenty of overlap in types and varieties of coins.)
Thinking is dangerous, it makes you think. That\'s why many people avoid it.
