New Banknotes

According to Armaguard, the RBA is currently designing new notes to foil counterfeiters who are passing a lot of fake $50 and $100 notes.

The new notes are expected to be much more colourful, and the government will almost certainly try to extract a political gain, even though it was a labour initiative. I'd bet any announcement will be trotted out just in time for an election campaign.

Not sure if it's the same as what you are talking about but I seen somewhere recently they will be bringing out a whole different breed of Australian banknotes. From what I saw they all look like cartoon characters. Suppose to be out by 2016 I think

It was in the media about 12 months ago. RBA and npa stated they had been working on new notes with enhanced security features. There was no release date mentioned.

Usually I can't read the Australian anymore (since they started charging for online subs) but the link worked well.
They are a big change from the current design.
