What we do not know at this point in time, if the Lincoln cent will be made for proof and uncirculated coin set for 2026 onwards.

I reached out to friends in Namibia and South Africa to check on current use of South African rand and about Botswana.

The current Common Monetary Area countries are: South Africa, Namibia, Lesotho, and Eswatini.

Weird that for Eswatini, the money is still called the Swazi Lilangeni.  You used the plural words.

Botswana did not join and the South African rand stopped being legal tender in 1976.

While not pegged, Zimbabwe accepts rand and other currencies such as the US Dollar, British Pound, and Botswana Pula in addition to their currency.

What I experienced in Namibia is that if you spend South African rand, that often your change would be in Namibian banknotes and coins.

Here is an article about issues ordering coins from the US Mint back in June.

https://www.coinworld.com/news/us-coins/mint-reviews-recent-customer-ordering-troubles

One interesting item is the following - Of the 100,000 coins minted, 10% (10,000 coins) were reserved for sale to the Mint's 17 Authorized Bulk Purchase Program dealers (whose identities are not publicly disclosed by the U.S. Mint). Individual ABPP dealers are allowed to place advance orders for some portion of the reserved coins.

Back in 2021, a collector friend in the USA was able to get me the 2021 releases of the Morgan dollars including the CC and O privy mark ones and the Peace dollar for 2021 and they struggled with the US mint ordering system.

I dread to think of what is going to happen in 2026 for the semiquincentennial coin releases for the USA being 250 years old.  Sadly I can't use my previous source since they passed away in early 2023.

Only item that I get direct from the US Mint is the uncirculated coin set.

Innovation dollars are a bit of pain to get since they are not in the US Mint set nor are the sold as uncirculated coins in the P/D set of all them - only proof.

World Coins / RE: Silver Saturday

The 2026 1 ounce silver Britannia coins are out as well and I have acquired one of those plus the two of the fractional ones (1/4 ounce and 1/10 ounce) for 2026.

Did you about the Tilawa Privy mark silver Britannia and silver Krugerrand that were made for 2025?

Royal Mint has not cut down on the non-circulation clad coins being released and not releasing all of the standard coins for each year into circulation, silver bullion is becoming more attractive for me.

World Banknotes / RE: UK 50 pounds

I agree it is silly but reality is, if you elect to try to use a £50 note in the UK, then be prepared that it will not be accepted.

There are people pushing back to that some places are no longer taking cash.

There is a push to overturn this comment from this last link:

The acceptance of physical currency in the UK is not currently specified in legislation. UK businesses and organisations can therefore choose which payment methods they accept.

Here is an article that explains a bit of why they are not widely used:

Shops can refuse to accept them:

Only one that I saw of those was the one that I got for redlock since they are not commonly used and a hassle to use them in most retail settings.

World Coins / RE: US Morgans

I only acquired all of the Morgan Dollar releases in 2021 as well as the Peace Dollar release for that year.  I have not bothered with any more of them since the initial release.

Now I have three of these.  All purchased for £13.80 and I will be sending two down to Triggersmob in Australia.

World Coins / RE: Fiji coins anyone?

I just wanted to thank Jeff for the 50 Years of Independence 50c coin that has made it way to me via Steve.

Hi folks,

I have now acquired a second one of these for the same price that I paid for the first one which was £13.80.

Now how to decide which to keep and which I consider sending to Steve so that he can trade it since I don't need two of them.

Serial number?
How straight the stamps are?

Coins in both look to be good condition.

The other thing that I am curious of is that I managed to acquire two for a decent price in the UK and have seen two or three others being sold for a bit of a higher price, does that mean that more were sold in the UK than in Australia?

Thanks,
Ken
