I had $50 of 10 cent, $50 of 20 cent and $50 of 50 cent
In the 10's I found 1967, 1969 and 1970 all in great nic
along with 5 x 1991, a 97 and a few other 10 cent pieces that I need to put under the magnifier for maybe errors.
In the 20's just the usual few 68's and 66's
Just the 1 "88" bicentennial
I know this has probably been asked before but can someone tell me what other coins or errors to look out for in the 10's and 20's?
Thanks, Matt
Also found some pre-decimal notes at my bank today too, just got some 1's and 2's but there were 20's and 50's.
You mean paper decimal notes not predecimal right? Predecimal notes at the bank would be insane!
Jeez.. where to start? I'm down to the 10's myself right now, so its moot timing. :)
On ALL the old heads, any denomination, look for lots of cuds all around and on her face, for starters. Also neck cracks, mostly from the pointy tip, but the back as well occasionally. And filled dies, mostly at the top of the hair and in the lettering. And a fair amount of doubling, and even tripling.
On the 10¢, look for cuds on the denomination, doubling along the tail and on the right side. There's a section between the tail feathers that broke off in 1999 too, which started as a bubble, then developed into a nice big cud. And in 2004 I think there was a very nice die clash.
Tons of errors and varieties on the 20¢, obviously design-specific, but on the platypus, look for cracks and cuds on the top of the bill, doubling and cuds on the denomination, a massive cud on the right hand paw, and of course the gap in the wave next to the head. Oh, and see if you can find a couple of wavy 2's for Goldy, willya? ;)

Yeh sorry you're right, I was having a moment a didn't even pick that up
Here's one I just found in my lot:
That 1980 has the largest cud I've ever found on a 10¢ coin. They're usually half this size or less in that position, and its surprising the die lasted this long without being replaced. I thought they had standards back then? ;)
ARRRRGGGHH! The VERY next coin after posting that pic was this 1979 cud that some idiot went and butchered. *cry*
Might keep it as an example to non-collectors of why you don't deface currency....

That is a nice size, has anyone found any CUD errors that show really well with the naked eye?? I posted a 20 cent coin recently with a fair size CUD, what's the largest you guys have found?
You've never found one of these?

You wouldn't need a usb gizmo thingie to see that one.!!
I've got a few of them. I've also sent a few away, the most recent was posted Monday.
The biggest would have to be the 10¢ tail feathers Nevol posted, and the 20¢ claw Goldy (I think) posted a few days ago. Unless you count that US 1¢ with the massive cud of course, but I'd reckon that one was unique, and its foreign anyway. ;)
So yeah, I need to take back what I said about that one above being the biggest I've found. I was actually referring to this type of cud on the zero. My bad. :(
Oh, and then there's the 1999 10¢ with the 10mm rim cud I just found. Rim cuds can be quite significant, but I don't consider them in the same category.
These two are not too shabby:

I really like the first one!
Me too.. kinda looks like its got a toupee on. ;)
haha toupee funny stuff.. How do you guys get your images so clear when that close? I'm only using a library scanner that goes from 200 to 600 dpi, what would be the best way to get the best image, is it best to do double sided scanning or just one side at a time?
They're photos, not scans. And its all in the lighting. Mine are crap co I hand hold in whatever light happens to be around. :)

So the coins that have been posted on this topic are photos not scanned? They look real clear, ican get close with my camera but not that close.

The images posted by Nevol are captures by USB microscope.
Very useful tool for the Ultra close up's for yhese odd ball cuds.
Not such a good tool for Whole of coin images.

No problems with showing the whole coin. I can do a full image of a crown sized coin easy peasy.
When I finish this post, I'll dig out a crown sized coin and start from scratch, then I can see by the time I post this exactly how long it takes me to get the images, run them through tinypic and then post them.
I use the USB Microscope basically as a hand held, but I have adapted some household items to use as aids. More about that later.
OK, Here they are:

Bugger, it put in my original post.:dodgy:
Today, 01:12 PM (This post was last modified: Today 01:22 PM by Nevol.)
So 10 minutes to find the right sized coin, take the images, save them, crop them in Photoscape, put them through Tiny pic, then post them here.
If you're interested in how to achieve this with the USB, just ask & I'll let you in on the secret.
I'm thinking I need one of these USB toys. Is there much difference between them?
New thread started for USB Microscopes:

AAhhh I didn't even realise how familiar the photos were to me, I use to have a handheld microscope with 3 LED lights surrounding the magnifier which showed everything. It has passed on, I forgot all about those little handy things, must make note to buy another one.. Cheers for the memory boost guys n gals lol
