I am running low on some sizes of 1½" x 1½" coin holders and they seem to be no longer available in Australia. I think I bought up all the remaining stock of the only dealer that had some a while back.
I like these for smaller coins as you can put them in 30 pocket album pages -50% more coins in an album without overloading it.
Biggest size is 30.5mm (at least with the ones I have now) which is big enough for florins and 20¢ coins [but not much room on the edge to staple].
Anyway, I am thinking of ordering a batch from the US. If you are interested in getting some, let me know and I will advise available sizes and likely costs.
Of course, if you know of a source for these locally; please tell me.
Jeff
PS. They are not made in sizes for Australian coins but enough size increments that a reasonable fit is available for any coin. For example; Closest size to our $1 coin (25mm) is 27.5mm which gives only 1.25mm (less than 1/16") space around the coin.
Got a pic and some pricing? I bought a ton of 2x2's direct from the distributor a few years back, and the bulk pricing was pretty good as I recall.
I am still researching prices -postage tends to be the killer.
Looked at Wizard (comes recommended) but their postage charge is, frankly, ridiculous. http://Wizard Coin Supply (http://www.wizardcoinsupply.com/) Don't want to pay 50¢+ per holder.
Now looking at some of the eBay sellers in US. Their prices may look higher but postage charges are more realistic. Cost is about 20¢ each but a big order should reduce that.
Some possibles;

Recommendations for suitable sources would be appreciated. Nancy gave me one some time ago but I can't find in anymore.
Jeff
are these prices any good?

I bought mine from:
http://www.valleycoin.com/index.php?cPath=9_406_734_451
I bought 3000 holders all up, 800 were 2x2's, the rest were 1½ x 1½.
The 2x2's cost $31.73, the 1½ x 1½ were $99.00, Freight to Aust for the lot was $39.95.
I can't remember how much I saved, but I know it was cheaper to get them from the US than to buy 3000 2x2's, as the 1½ x 1½ aren't available in Australia, plus there was a further saving from being able to put 30 on a page instead of 20.
Their prices are still the same as they were in 2009, and those prices are in US$, so even less when converted.
It might be time for me to see if I need any more, but I think if I do, I might just order them myself, as there would only be one lot of postage to pay then.
hmm interesting to know, I usually buy lighthouse boxes of 100, they cost anywhere from $10 - $15 a box, so you know you spend 10 - 15c a piece, but I only get them when I go to the coin fair once a year, and surprisingly I have run out of a few sizes, I think its the $1 size, cos you can substitute putting shillings in the same size, I think there are 4 or 5 sizes I buy that can cover most coins, I don't mind if they have a gap around them in the 2x2, so I have to hold on for a few more weeks till I can get back into putting coins away.
I always use lighthouse self adhesive2x2 flips simply because they are easy to use and look sooooo much better than the staple types :ok:
These cost me about $25 per 100 landed .
If any of the dealers on the site can do better than $25 per 100 let me know and I will buy from here :good:
Might as well keep the money "In the Family" :dance2:
Thanks Robbie and Nancy. I recognised the name of Nancy's suggestion as soon as I saw it.
I have rejected the eBay sellers -the prices aren't as good as the dealers.
I checked posted price for 10 bundles of 100 1.5x1.5, quarter size holders posted to Australia;
•Air-Tites is US$62.85 first class mail and $83.25 priority (includes tracking)
•Wizard is $78.43 priority [does not offer regular mail service]
•Valley coins is a little more expensive and can't get shipping cost without completing an order form. So, I have sent an enquiry.
2x2 holders are actually cheaper from all sellers.
So, that gives a price of around 6¢ to 8¢ per holder, delivered to Australia. Maybe a little less with a larger order. That's about half price of buying 2x2s locally.
Looks like it could be worth doing.
Jeff
if the aussie dollar is going well then it can work out a bit less
but then you get the various international charges for the currency change over bizzo

I have just finished removing about 800 coins from my numis albums
because of the talk of PVC ruining them (in Accum's thread). My husband thinks i'm nuts!
now I have to figure out where to put them!! I have just bagged most into cellophane bags with dates etc. as it was all getting a bit too much trying to do the lot all at once
Incidentally, I removed several coins that look as good as when I put them into the sleeves, over 5 years ago or longer i.e. full lustre etc
so I dunno about the talk of the PVC sleeve ruining the coins?
but I do know that I have several perfect silver coins that have been ruined by adhesive 2x2's as the coin has slipped into the sealer part
and they are now wreaked with black sooty marks
I wouldn't trust the adhesive holders with your best coins Trout
the glue doesn't hold up for a long time
I bought a 'gem' 1964 m penny recently in a Jaggard's 2x2 - same thing, the coin has slipped into the glued section, so the dealer sold the coin to me for $10 against a holder that has $30 on it
Theres a genuine 1930 penny in the window of 'monetarium' in Adelaide which has slipped down into the holder as well. I cringe each time i see it. Im amazed they havent fixed it seeing as its been like it for a while now.

I store ALL my albums flat, there is NO danger of the coins "Slipping down" that way :ok: :dance2:
I bought my 2x2's in bulk lots of 1,000 and from memory the price was single digits. I may have to go for a drive and see what I can renegotiate now.
As for pages, I only use Ultra-Pro pages which are archival quality. I do cheat however. Since I have boxes of 9-pocket card pages, I put two coins per pocket in. Two 2x2's fit snugly into a bank coin bag, which folds neatly into a package that slips right in. This works a treat for bulk items, like say double-bars, 3.5 claws, etc. And it keeps the mounts tight so they don't open up.
The only fly in the ointment is that the Australian Ultra-Pro Distributor is an arsehole. I worked for him, and he stole $30,000 from me. So once I run out, I won't be buying any more locally, for sure.

i'm wondering if that is why my numis albums haven't done any damage to my coins
cause I store mine upright, so the pages are sort of lose and not squashed on one another
maybe, anyways, I did wonder about that
don't happen t be after about 700 hundred or so old pennies by any chance?? ha ha
all bagged up nice and neat!!

that sounds like it could be a long story
and sadly in the coin business there are a few too many of them
Yeah mate, a long story that took a very long year to write, and maybe longer to tell. No happy ending either. :(
