The News Desk - eBay selling

anyone receive the email this morning, to make sense of it they are changing fees and stuff, not much difference as far as I can see.
7.9% - 9.9% end fee
30 free listings - 40 free listings
and other junk I don't use
and the free listing thing is insulting cos last week I was offered 100 free listings.

Easy to work this out.
eBay just hiked it's fees by 2% more :dash1:
I wonder when paypal will come in and bite us on the bum as well :dodgy:

I am a regular seller and didn't receive an email!

I went and found the details. Looks a bit like a give and take exercise with more take than give overall.

New fee structure - compare the new with the old
[attachment=1588]
Note that $100 capped final value fee only applies for casual sellers -"Casual seller eligibility criteria
To qualify for 30 free listings per month members must have a Registered Address in Australia, and must not be a PowerSeller, registered as a business or a Store subscriber. Listings must be single quantity and not fall within Excluded Categories." Moire than 31 items in a month and Final Value Fees are uncapped.

We are classified as a power seller whether we want to be or not. So, The 40 free listings will save us $20 per month (virtually all our listings are at starting price less then $20). So, with 2% higher Final Value fee the breakeven point becomes $1,000 total sales per month. Guess what our average monthly sales figure is? Correct! Just over $1,000.

EBay new item also says "After reviewing the changes it should be clear that the new fee structure also encourages sellers to adopt the behaviours that we know buyers increasingly prefer (eg: fixed price over auction in some categories)". I have my doubts that buyers prefer Buy It Now. Another step towards going away from being an auction site and turning into a a straight sales site methinks.

I am off now to see what the new, improved (re-introduced anyway)  Basic Store Package is all about (apart from seducing sellers into a scheme promising extra services and delivering next to nothing.

Maybe sellers will be noting all sales with the following statement:

NOTE:   SUCCESSFUL BIDDER(S) WILL BE REQUIRED TO ADD 12.3% PLUS $0.30 TO FINAL BID TO COVER EBAY AND PAYPAL COSTS".

That may drive a lot of people away from Ebay/Paypal.

Yep. Ebay appears to be moving away from auctions to fixed price listings.  Many good sellers have left and rip-off merchants have filled the vacume.  I see more and more chinese duds and junk.  Still some bargains around if you are prepared to spend the time.

I haven't looked at ebay since the paypal debacle a few years back, and never will. The whole deal is a ripoff from go to whoa, and they don't need encouragement.

Even with the freebie listings more expensive for me to sell on ebay. That is why I list less. I am actually loosing money on some sales

I checked out the basic shop deal.
•80 free listings a month but only for Buy it Now (and auction on a few selected categories).
•Reduced listing fees if more than 80 per month -fixed price listings only
•1.9% discount on Final Value Fees (except the auction categories that are in the free listing entitlement -these only get 0.4% discount).
•Final Value fees capped at $250 per month.

Looks like eBay is actively encouraging fixed price (Buy it Now) listings and large (say turnover in the $000's per month) and driving away auction and small/hobby type sellers.

Now is when we need a decent Australian Internet auction site -previous attempts have not been very successful. Maybe Trade Me should go international? They managed to see off eBay NZ in quick time and their listing and selling model looks good. All we need is someone in Australia who could take up a franchise.
Of course the mascot would have to be changed from a kiwi to, say, a kangaroo. And like all NZ expats that make it good in Australia we would claim it as our own.
