Hi all,
Is anyone going to the Sydney Easter Show?
The RAM is going to be there counterstamping the 'S' 2013 Bicentennial of the Holly Dollar $1 coin. I'm not actually going this year so I can't pick any up for anyone. Is anyone else going?
OK, if no one else is going - I can go. There is a late entry ticket that costs $20 and if enough want them and no one is going, I can go and share this cost around.
Wavy20
Sadly I'll be 1,400km away. I wonder if they'll be any differences to those struck at ANDA later this year.

That is a good question. I have brought the S counterstamped regularly and was hoping to not do so this year. However, they are actually a nice looking coin and I again find myself sucked into wanting some.
I will definitely be going to the ANDA show.
Wavy20
WavyTwenty: If your going, any chance of you getting me five "S" Counters please.
If OK, PM me with bank details and monies will be deposited.
Where did you get your info re the attendance of the RAM at the Royal Easter?
I had been watching for anything from the RAM about them attending and I finally saw something from them in Facebook. Of all places Facebook!?!?!?
I'll keep watching the numbers who want them here and if there is enough interest ill go one night to pick some up.
Wavy20 - aka Nigel
You laugh, but the RAM is using Facebook to promote all of its 'events' lately.-John
It can be found here: https://www.facebook.com/#!/RoyalAustralianMint
Wavy20
It's also here (http://www.ramint.gov.au/media/noticeboard/2013/20130320.cfm).
Great PP - putting it up the day before it opens. I would have pre-paid for tickets to get them cheaper if I had known that it was going to be on.
Does anyone get the idea I'm a little grumbly at them?
Wavy20
just a reminder to me, cos my webpage is upgrading
Sydney Royal Easter Show 21 March - 3 April 2013

Wavy20,
PM sent
Thanks
Yeah - well - by the overwhelming demand for them looks like ill be going in at some stage.
Send me a PM if you would like me to pick some up for you.
The cost will be $15 per coin and this includes registered post. I haven't actually read how much the base coin will cost and I'm assuming that it is $10 each - like its been for the last couple of years.
It also includes my entry into the show at night which is twenty dollars. I think I'll try to Ho on this Monday night, get in early and get it done. So let know quick smart.
Nigel
I already have a "S" mintmarked coin from a set of 4 , How does this one differ from that coin ?
The 'S' from the set of 4 is a privy mark (in a square). The 'S' from the Royal Easter Show would be a counterstamp (in a circle).-John

No worries, looks like this will be another series like the 100 years Australian Coinage and the Rams head lot :dash1:
o trout'y you haven't read my site page have you!
haha quick and simple coins that come in a 4 coin set are PRIVY marks and the letter on the coin is on a square -
a counter stamp is a stamp applied after the coin had been made and is surrounded by a circle.
I will find a pic for you

So it will be the same as the Perth one but with an "S" instead :ok:
Yep-John

ok here is a pic with all the stuff you may see, note the bluebell counter stamp was for a event, and picture variety's are rarely seen I think the only other one was the tiny kangaroo one for 2009 master mintmark
ok so you can see the Canberra mintmark was part of the die and is stamped as one piece when the coin was made. the letter is rised
then you have privy marks, they are also part of the die and are stamped as one piece when the coin was made. the square is raised with an incused letter
then you have counter stamps, these are added to the coin after it has been made, so the mint make coins with just the normal design but with no lettering marks, then at a event/ANDA you get to coin presses a letter into the coin - thus making a counter stamp, the letter is a incused circle with a raised letter
I hope I have covered it

Yes :dance2:
My collections went from absolute Chaos to complete order, Due mainly to the fact that I have them all (well nearly all) in 2x2 albums clearly marked .
I also have started to use excell as a data base so that I know what I have.
A simple matter of looking at the data base and pulling out the one dollar coins album and looking at 2009 coins and hey presto:yahoo:
It has taken me about 5 months to get to this stage and is an ongoing project :ok:
I ENVY YOU
I wish I was that organised, I have albums with coins in date order, but I don't know what album is what
I see that this has a mintage of 20,000,
I wonder if that figure will include the Sydney ANDA?
There is nothing on the folder to indicate that this is specifically for the Royal Easter Show.

isn't it odd that the mintage numbers correspond with the average die life:dodgy:
I would imagine that ALL these counter stamp coins are ALREADY minted and a few extras are created by the technician at the show.
Ok - I have orders for 10 of these and are getting them today. If you want me to get some for you, you better let me know quick smart.
Wavy20
wow 20,000 WTF it will be worth nothing, the p one I checked and it has mintage 5,000
I guess that the are using the s packaging for Sydney ANDA, so that's 5,000 of the bat but do they really think they are going to sell 15,000 at the Easter show?
The coins were only $5 each. I'm not sure where I got the idea that they were $10 each - I seem to premember a previous one being this much. Anyway, I'll PM you with the final cost for those who let me know that you wanted some.
Wavy20
They are $10 at the ANDA shows. Why would the Sydney Royal Easter Show be any different to warrant such a price cut, or should I say are we getting ripped off at ANDA shows?

I think most of these will be available in a 4 coin set later in the year if the mint runs true to form:dodgy:
Glad to hear Wavey20. They have come down in price. Maybe the RAM has finally woken up to the fact that the lower the cost, the more one sells....lets hope it will flow to the ANDA Shows.

ANDA shows 4 of them, 5,000 coins @ $10.00 equals $50,000 over 2 days, times 4 shows a year that's $200,000
RAS show, 20,000 coins @ $5.00 equals $100,000 over 13 days
That's of course if they sell them all.
But in answer to you question, "are we getting ripped off at ANDA shows?"
nooooooooooooooo wayyyyyyyyyyy
it will be interesting to compare the Royal Easter Counterstamp to that of the Sydney ANDA show. Maybe there will be a difference and the ANDA Show coins will be scarcer.
However, if there is absolutely no difference, then where do we stand.
Maybe the folder will give the ID of which show the coin came from.......

If you look at previous page I have a scan of current folder there is no indication as it is from the RAS just Sydney
Maybe there will be a different coin offering for the Sydney ANDA. Just speculating.-John

Let's not confuse ourselves with counterstamp vs privymark.
If the price is $10 at ANDA I'm sure one of the outspoken members here will have a few words to the RAM:dodgy:
seeings as me and AC are now flash new Mint Legend Members  Maybe they will offer these show coins to us at a discount:angel: :laugh2:
Could it be possible that the clue to the difference may be in the "mintage" figure. 20,00 for the Royal Easter Show and 5,000(?) for the ANDA Show.
I have just checked the "P" ANDA Show folders and the mintage on them is indicated at 5,000..........
If this is the case then the folder will be the clue via the MINTAGE figure.
just gotta say my "c" cost $3 and that was borrowed from a mate..
so actually cost zilch !!! beat that

If you borrowed the $3 then you Have to pay it back ( unless you are willing to welch on the loan) so it still only cost you 3 bucks, Great deal Mate:good:

i did say he is a mate (of 40 yrs) and a keeper as he got me into this coin collecting, also red wine !! on the day we were impressed with the display at RAM and unaware of the press so be warned take plenty of coins!
do not worry he gets his $3 out me other ways:laugh2:
Most people buying the "S" at the show are buying for their kids. I watched a few couples with prams walk past and buy a coin each for the kids and in seconds the kids are ripping the folder apart. Will be very tough selling the 20000 coins all at the show or even close to it. Ram staff were making up dealers orders. They might not have the press at the SYD ANDA show. I'm told this is the only portable press "S".
We will have to wait till Sep 2013 to see if the RAM will attend the Sydney ANDA Show.
Accroding to the ANDA Website, the dates have changed and I think the Location as well.
I have sent everyone a PM with the cost details of the coins. Let me know if you were expecting one of these and you didn't get a PM from me.
I expect I'll see you all again for the Sydney ANDA show - assuming they will have a MYO coin there.
Wavy20 - aka Nigel
Nigel if you have any leftovers or non-payers :) then pm me.
Did you end up getting a Perth Counterstamp coin PP?
Quote from: 'purplepennyhunter' pid='11169' dateline='1364798325'Nigel if you have any leftovers or non-payers :) then pm me.
Sorry PP - everyone was a good payer this time.
Wavy20
No worries Nigel. I just had the thought though as it's possible that the portable press is not going to be at the Sydney ANDA now. I collect all the dollars but my heart isn't in it so much anymore. But I have to keep them up to date and get the new ones.
Thanks Trout I did get one of the Perth coins hand delivered from a dear coin friend who visited on his way back from the show. I don't think I even had to pay for it except in hospitality!
o PP can have the second coin that you put aside for me
It's ok really I just thought I'd ask if there were spares. No big deal.
PPH:- If you are after an "S" portable press Holey Dollar, I think the Downies in Melbourne may be getting a few. Do you want me to check it for you?

I went and stamped myself a coin!
I should have done a stack more and sold them at double the price! Kidding! Apologies for not being able to help - with a 3yo and a 5yo, I didn't like my chances of them waiting around while I played!
~Naomi.
Quote from: 'naomi_j86' pid='11329' dateline='1364986311'I didn't like my chances of them waiting around while I played!
Just a FYI - they keep a stack of pre-stamped out the back and you can get them straight away. The only wait is if you want to stamp them yourself.
In my understanding, the ones that have not been stamped (and consequently are rare and more expensive) have come from this stock out the back. None have come from the ones that you stamp yourself - they don't make mistakes with these.
Wavy20
Well now I just feel silly! I didn't know that!
The machine scared the bejeebers out of me - so loud as it smashed a little 's' onto my coin!
Thanks, I'll know for next year :)
I bought one of these last night (buy it now) and noticed that my payment had been refunded this morning.
The seller wanted $7 to send one of these because I paid with paypal .
No worries so I looked about and got one cheaper and with free postage:yahoo:
Please be advised that the "back door" stash that Wavy twenty mentioned, are pre stamped on the same press that one presses his/her own coin at the show. They are not pre stamped with a production press.
The pre stamped coins are also available to the store holders at these shows. I just can't think of the name they call these pre orders but I was able to pre order through a coin dealer several years ago.
If you don't have the time then by all means buy the pre stamped coins.
I know when I go to the shows, regardless of how many I have been asked to get for other people, I stand in line and stamp each and every coin.
The most I have been requested to do was 640 when the portable press was at the Royal Melbourne Agricultural show many years ago. I started pressing at 9.50am and ended bang on 6.00pm. It was a long, long day.
That's amazing goldseeker well done 640 I only recently pressed 3 C at the mint with a line up of people from a bus tour and found that situation overwhelming
The mint did not attend the Brisbane or Melbourne anda show I was told so maybe the S from the royal easter show will be unique?
Although the RAM failed to attend all the norm ANDA shows this year, the normal Counterstamped coins will still be produced.
Where is the portable press heading to get all the counterstrikes this year?
The RAM will be attending the World Coin and Banknote Expo at Etihad Stadium in October I think it is and they will have the Portable Press for your "M" Counterstamps there.
Oops, Etihad Stadium is in Melbourne.
Where else will RAM be going this year with the Portable Press Goldseeker,I appreciate your knowledge thank you does the RAM advise or do they like popping up "out of the blue" so to speak ?
goldy has contacts ;) haha I also know the media lady at the RAM. but you can sometimes search up and coming events too, may I point you in the direction of the forum Calender at the top right of the webpage, some very kind members have taken the time to add up and coming events so you can keep up to date with all things coin associated from RAM attending events all the way to local coin club meetings and shows, swaps and anything of general interest.
http://www.australian-coins.net/calendar.php
I keep my eyes and ears open and ask questions to certain people to get the info I post here.
In saying that, some of the info I post is late due to the fact the info, at the time of receiving, is "commercial in confidence" and I am required to keep things quiet until certain dates and times.
It is good/nice to have contacts in the right place.
Who is the RAM media lady?
My lips are sealed, sorry.
If you need info from the RAM, send them an email. The address is on the RAM's website.

I thought they are going to the Brisbane RNA Exhibition in a couple of weeks time with the portable press seeing as they didn't come to the ANDA show back in May.
