Well, we came back from Fiji absolutely skint -the $30 charge for a regular payment putting my card overlimit by less than $1 was most unwelcome.
Anyway, money is needed so this coin is being offered for sale...
http://www.australian-coins.net/attachment.php?aid=1432
Just to be a little different I think a Dutch Auction might be amusing...
How it works;
•I nominate a start price
•]If anyone is willing to pay that price, then they send a PM and coin is sold
•If, as likely, my start price is too high, then I offer a reduced price.
•And so on, until an interested buyer agrees to an offered price.
I will start Auction tomorrow at 19:00 EDST, 19 March (That is 7:00pm Eastern Daylight Saving Time). Each revised price ask will be offered the same time the next day.
Any questions, please ask before start time.
Good luck, if you are looking for one of these.
Jeff
so you are offer the 2001 rotated 20c (that is cool)
um is this like silver stackers, that's the auction type I am familiar with, you put a start price and people put bids up there's a start time and a end time "usually a few days cos not everyone will see it in one day" and the highest big at the end time gets it... ill find a link and show you
(this is how the big boys play - scary big money been throw around)
http://forums.silverstackers.com/topic-37893-auction-2010-perth-mint-silver-tigers.html
No AC. I give a "wish I could get this" price and everyone ignores it.
Next day I revise it downwards and several people send ribald messages.
Next day I drop it a little more.
Next day...
Then I slit my wrists (just kidding)
First person to accept a daily offer is the buyer.
Nobody actually bids -just wait for the offer price to come down to to your limit.
Simple really but, opposite to what you may be used to.
Jeff
o I get it so you are teasing everyone... haha "here fishy fishy" :P
No, it's not a tease. It is a well established selling method.

Jeff
I was just playing, I was also going to say id have a nibble, but your not in a playful mood, hug
OK, nibble on this $150. :tease:
This is not an official offer, starts tomorrow 7:00pm Eastern Daylight Saving Time.
Awesome idea Jeff. I'll be watching!
I'll be watching too.

Stand by for the countdown.

cool font!
Quotecool font!
Hi K H,
Took a bit of experimenting to get that to work. Hope you like the
colour?
Jeff
And, awaiting comments, feedback, criticism from anyone else.
Thanks in advance
Jeff
Hey Jeff
Hope you don't mind but I get a bit creative at times, so,
Here's a mascot to add some colour to your auction
Perhaps nibbles can introduce the new price for each evenings' gathering of the collectors?

You have a PM...........jeffH
Waiting, waiting for an announcement......
Announcement probably coming soon.
I have been made an offer that I find hard to refuse.
Jeff
Well, "upsetcoinseeker"Ûž has obviously peeked at my wish list (http://www.australian-coins.net/showthread.php?tid=168) and made an offer.
No, not a case of Grange but something quite desirable that I don't have.
So, tentative acceptance made (just waiting final arrangements).
Dutch Auction is now on hold. Will only be resumed if the other arrangement does not proceed.
I will advise what is happening and would like to have feedback for improvements to any similar, future auctions. I have a few ideas; what works in a room full of prospective buyers, does not work so well on-line (at least the way I did it). I may have to consult with MarkN to see if my ideas for a better "reverse" auction are feasible.
Next time I might try a less ambitious coin (or coins) to experiment with. And, I promise Nibbles will get a Guernsey in the next auction.
Jeff
ÛžNot his real user name. Thinly disguised to almost conceal his identity.
NIBBLES will be madly gnawing on that dandelion flower - shivering with excitement as she awaits the next dutch auction bought to you by JeffH promotions .......
NIBBLES the AUction Bunny hopes that your sale or swap is a most satisfactory trade arrangement

Jeff,
I liked your "reverse auction" idea so much that I am tentativelly considering doing one as well -if it does not tread on your toes.
A couple of ideas I had were to have the amount it drops by set each day (eg 5% per day), or based on tossing a die (eg toss the die twice, add the numbers and take that percentage off)
What do you think?
QuoteI liked your "reverse auction" idea so much that I am tentativelly considering doing one as well
It's not really my idea. Commonly used in fish auctions I believe. Go for it.
I am inclined to think an agreed drop in the asking price each day would be the go. Would be nice if that could be automated but, I don't think Forum code would handle that?
Also, encourage interested members to express an interest. Then you can see who is on-line when you set the next price reduction. Otherwise, no idea what is happening out there.
Comment please ladies, gentlemen and assorted others (without mentioning any names);
•How often should price offer be reduced?
•What is a good time of day to be convenient to as many people as possible?
•Is there a workable measure to gauge interest along the way?
•Any other comments?
Thanks,
Jeff
nibbles doesn't care
just as long as she gets show time!!
I'll chime in and say a reduction once per day is probably enough. The increment is entirely up to the seller but should probably be disclosed at the beginning of the auction.
Hi Jeff,
I did not mean to attribute the invention of the reverse auction concept to you, but I think your use of it here is good - thanks for the idea.
I would like to support this forum, so I will be holding my reverse auction here too.
Announcement will follow shortly.
PS. robbiegal. Nibbles is welcome to do support of my revese auction too :)
My pet "Nibbles" is waiting as well :diablo::laugh2:
[attachment=1478]
Oh dear Trout!
I think your nibbles might be trying to scare off competitors!!
ha ha
I rather like Trouts' nibbles there!!
Nibbles will cheerfully come along for the ride
I make make a smaller poster for the auctions
'Bunny' nibbles sort of fits in with the Easter theme
whereas croc nibbles is definately for the monster auctions!!
a handie kind of pet there Trout
Are I get it now sorry..it's like a normal auction where they ask to start the bidding and if they have no takers it drops until someone says yay to the price and if no more bidders then item goes for that price but most auctions take off once someone makes the first bid..very funny that.
Nibbles sometimes goes to a local 'house auction' that runs like that
and it took her a bit to realise what was going on
the start price goes down
then if there is a 'sudden' interested from another bidder the price can go up above the start price too
gets a bit confusing but fun
