Title: Peter Johnson - Yay or Nay
Post by: markn on September 22, 2012, 07:00:09 AM
As expected mover, shaker, and all around nice guy Peter Johnson has registered here under his usual moniker, jonsopet.  Now we're almost certain that he's also registered another account going by the name rubystein.  This is one of his usual methods of making forum administrators love him so much.  If we do let him in be warned that he will cause arguments, will be obnoxious, and will say a lot of stupid things.  If we don't let him in he'll just keep registering accounts with funny names and invent elaborate back stories to try to pretend he's someone else.  Either way he's a funny guy and keeps us entertained.

As the moderator team it's up to us to decide whether to activate his account or not.  So let's vote.

The trouble is he cannot keep out of trouble.   I had to remove posts between him and another member on ACBO before it blew into a full verbal argument.  I did not even give it a chance.

Maybe we could give him a very strong warning but I do not think it would matter much.

There's always the option of activating him and have his posts approved by us before they are live.

Whatever is involved in him being here though is going to end up as more work for us...........

But if he's already here reading and posting as rubystein what motivations has he for registering as his own name......

That's deceptive from the get go.

I haven't voted yet.

I suspect that the other account is for one of his other personalities.  Uh, I mean to use when the jonsopet account gets banned because he is an ass.

OK let's put it this way (just thinking out loud here).

What has he actually contributed to on other forums with regard to content or images????? I can only think of one and that's number of posts.

He makes stupid/outlandish statements and refuses to substantiate anything he says, supposedly sourced from some so called 'expert' who he simply can't name or attribute the info to, very rarely says anything constructive, avoids answering questions, never posts any pictures, in other words he is a negative influence, and so I voted accordingly.

What we need to remember is just who we are dealing with, he is a serial pest of the worst kind, I can only think of one other forum person with a similar reputation.

Look at the time he's made us waste so far just deciding on what to do with him.  If I could, I'd dump a giant truckload of horse s**t on him. Finito!

He will no doubt eventually do something that gets him banned. He's signed up on CCF over a dozen times, each time acting in exactly the same way and been banned each time; after a couple dozen posts it's not hard to figure out who his alt-IDs are, even if you don't notice a matching IP.

The question is, do we let him in anyway? Judging from observing his past behaviour I am reasonably certain he is incapable of changing his attitudes, not without divine intervention anyway.

I'd vote for pre-emptive nuclear strike. Take out him and his army of clones.

Are any of the moderator team here unfortunate enough to be on his list of people he knows the e-mail address of? I'm not, but rggoodie is. Each time he gets banned from CCF he gives RG a good blasting.

I doubt that would make any difference to him. He obviously thinks he's got some sort of 'right' to even be brazen enough to apply using his original ID.

Shovel him up and ship him out.   :icon_arrow: :icon_arrow: :icon_arrow:  :icon_arrow: :icon_arrow: :icon_arrow: :icon_arrow: :icon_arrow:

OK, that's 3 Nay votes.  He's banned.  We'll watch the other ID for action until we're certain it's him and ban that one too.  Thread closed.

Thread reopened. FYI Mods.

It's been brought to our attention that Peter Johnson may be posting under the alias "runway". We may have to watch this member carefully.

Watching the patterns of posting and the comments made I tend to think it is probably him.

He's been an ass the whole time he's been here.  I tend to delete most of his better material before most people get to see it.

Maybe he should be given a final warning then if he keeps it up remove him from members list and block his IP address.

We've already done that and he created a new ID and started using a Telstra internet dongle that changes his IP address every time he starts a new internet session.  Honestly it's better off that we know who he is and monitor his posts (and delete them) than him burrowing back in and creating some alternate persona we have to figure out.  Which is exactly what's happened in the past.

I have my suspicions that he already has several other ID's ready for when he might need them. At lease we know exactly who he is at present, better the devil you know etc....

I wondered how long he could hold out before he derailed.

His train is permanently running off of the tracks.  If you want some chuckles watch some of the interactions that him and robbiegal have.  I am not sure what she did to upset him but he's got it in for her, she gives back as good as she gets though.

Yeah, I've noticed a few of  his 'interactions' with RG. Once he gets it in for anyone he never lets go.  RG must have really irked him at some time.

Even when I totally disagree with his comments, I stay well out of it.  I remember how he used to be on ACBO and how vitriolic he was with PPH.

He's had it in for me for what must be nearly 10 years.  Thankfully he's given up sending me obscene or threatening emails and keeps his activities to bad-mouthing me to anyone who will listen.  I must admit I'd rather be on the list of people that he's got it in for than those that he likes.  I must be doing something right :)

PPH have been speaking about Runway tonight.  He seems to have gotten under the skin of several members who are responding to his provocations.  We all know that is like a red rag to a bull as far as he is concerned and he's starting to really upset a lot of people.  As a consequence I've put him on automatic post moderation.  Moderators will need to approve all of his posts before they go public.

In anticipation of him having another ID already signed up I've run a report of users and last login date.  If he goes quiet and starts posting with a dormant account I can run the report again and we should be able to narrow his alternate account down fairly quickly.

I reckon he's got multiple 'personalities' in real life and on the forum.  There are already quite a few inactive members that I think could be him.

I don't think he'll be too happy about automatic post moderation, unless he's unaware of it and I doubt there's much to be gained by banning him, as he's very determined and will find some way to make his presence known, or in his case unknown.

It seems to me that he only ever posts in the evening or late at night, so I guess he's doing it from his workplace.

There were no previously dormant accounts that logged in last night after he did.  Nor did any of the accounts log in from a similar Telstra assigned IP address.  I'll run the same report each morning for a week or two and see when he pops his head up again.

It's lovely and peaceful on the forum, just real coins posts about coins and not poking and prodding and resurrecting old posts to start argument. Even AJ is back. Mark says Runway hasn't even logged in for 2 days so he must know he's on moderated posts.

I had been speaking with other members and he really is/was degrading forum morale and needed to pull his head in.

there are 4 new posts by him in:
www.australian-coins.net/showthread.php?tid=4079&pid=82708#pid82708

all posted last night between 11:32 pm and 11:45 pm, but they all have pink shading so I guess that's what they look like when they're waiting to be approved by a mod.

There are also new posts by him in 2 other threads which are also pink.

My bad, I checked late last night and he hadn't logged in, didn't check again this morning when PPH asked me about PJ.

Those posts of his are in the moderator queue.  Mods can approve or delete them using the Mod CP at the top of the forum and then clicking on the Moderation Queue link on the lower left.  I believe that posts in the mod queue are only visible to moderators.

We've been checking the moderation queue every morning and accepting or deleting runways comments as they are deemed suitable/off topic/shit stirring/resurrecting argument/starting new argument. Looks to be working out ok so far. Some comments and duplicate posts tell me that he knows his posts aren't immediately seen.

For example last night 3 posts one duplicate and both were shit stirring and resurrection of shit stirring and another off-topic resurrection of shit stirring so they were all deleted.

You are right Nancy the pink posts are those only seen buy the mods/admin and need to be approved before everyone sees them.

One of his posts I approved a few days ago had a person's full name in it, even their second name.  This is the entire post:

WENDY JANICE ROBERTS
http://www.ebay.com.au/usr/fortymillion007
Nasty piece of work from Devonport Tasmania
Yes trout this thing is a real piece of work, best ignore the nutter

I deleted the name and warned him not to use peoples names but of course you already know that and the consequent posts. I read all the posts on the RAM forum and it seems like it's just a place for shit stirrers to go to sling shit at each other.

PJ's reply from last night to my latest post in the thread has also been deleted, namely:
"Yeah right Fred Flintstone my name is Wilma and I live in Bedrock :wavemulticolor: "

Personally, I'd just as soon delete the whole thread, as I doubt that it brings anything of value to the forum.
