Title: Posting problems
Post by: JeffH on March 16, 2013, 08:37:06 AM
Formatting and insertion buttons on posting page have not been working for a while.
For example I click on B (bold) and get "[undefined=undefined]". "[CLOSE TAGS]" link comes up in top right corner but does nothing.
Then, click on, say, insert hyperlink button now does nothing. If that was the first button to have been selected it would have given "[undefined=undefined]".

Not sure if manually putting in code works Looks like it doesn't.

Over to you Mark.

Jeff

Text formatting has never worked for me, and I thought it was because of the browser I use, Firefox originally, but now use Pale Moon.  I do all my formatting manually, takes a little longer, but gets me there in the end.

When I click on any of the formatting buttons, I get [undefined=undefined].

Maybe it is a browser related issue? Firefox recently upgraded (version 19.0.2 now).
So, trying with Internet explorer (9.0.8112.16421) now and that doesn't even show the formatting icons!

And IE show search result "Thank you, your search has been submitted and you will now be taken to the results list." indefinitely unless "please wait" link is clicked.

I normally do the highlight the words option then press the buttons

you can also do the press the button before typing then press the button when finished to close the option, or you are left with undefined or close the tag in red appears on the right

I use to have the same problem, but have changed to a new computer and it's working fine. I am using Firefox on both computers.

Well I'm with JeffH

Three PC's have Log in capabilities.

Server Running Firefox Release 12 No formatting probs.
PC 2 Running Firefox Release 17 Formatting Toolbar not working

PC 3 Running Firefox Release 19 Formatting Toolbar not working

Am posting this reply from Google Chrome V25.0.1364.172m and all formatting options work fine.

The evidence is pointing at Firefox Browser after release 12
And possibly a Java incompatibility issue.
Can this be resolved ???

Seems fine.

Now why did it only stop working with Firefox 19 upgrade? I wonder if it is the browser itself or an add on?

“Curiouser and curiouser!” Cried Alice.
I just put a link in a post (just as text, not as a link insert, which won't work for me).
It shows as an active, clickable link in the post.

"Jeff use IE9 it works perfectly".
Hi Trout,
If you check back on my postings in this thread you will find IE9 is even worse on my computer than Firefox. But Chrome seems to work well.

Some code expert member will probably advise why sometime. Hopefully with settings to fix.

The problems are all related to javascript.  Based on personal experience getting javascript to play nicely between browser versions is mongrel because they all have different implementations and the implementations between versions of the SAME browser can be very different.  In my experience Google Chrome and IE9 are the most compatible browsers around.  Firefox used to be good but in recent releases it's been horrible.  If the formatting buttons are not working in your browser I suggest you take the time to learn a bit of the markup language this forum uses.  It's called "MyCode" and you can read all about it here:

I am in Kalgoorlie at the moment on a job.
I brought my new windows 8 laptop with me (after fixing the bugs in it ), It has explorer 10 on it and it works great.
It even has a spell checker built in :dance2:

Its just a dirty grubby Mining town as far as I am concerned.
