THE END OF NEW ZEALAND COINS???
Earlier this year, after a strategic review, the Reserve Bank of New Zealand (RBNZ) decided to cease issuing future collectable coins and, subsequently, their partnership with the nation's coin issuers, NZ Post, ended on the 30 June.
Whilst there may be one or two approved-but-not-issued items still to come, this news effectively ends an era of official New Zealand Collector Coins.

Yay I say, bring it on all around the world to all Mints. May special coins be just that, special. Not this months releases.
Pacckboxitis, making the packaging worth just as much as the coin itself is not something that I like much.

Its all true, if it helps they were not selling much of them anyway, nearly all made overseas and the NZ Post was haemorraging money and sitting on piles of old stock.
Last I did a stamp order and they offered a NCLT Tokyo Olympics dollar (Coloured muck metal) for like $6 and it used to cost $110 or something. Obviously they are not going to bother with unsold stock. The precious metal coins like Gold Matariki coins and the bigger black silver birds and 1kg silver coins did fairly well with the Proof sets, but Trumpanomic pricing ($300 for a 1oz silver coin) has scared most casual buyers off.
Most of their products have little or no secondary market and there has been a boom in themed silver and gold bullion (Marvel, skulls, egypt, pirates, occult themes etc). Its 1980s marketing that has come to an end.
They have killed off the lower and middle ends of their market, by not minting UNC sets in standard metals and finish and not selling base metal items at competitive prices like Australia, Canada and most of Europe does.
So no more yearly mint sets?
