Hi peeps, I haven't been here for years. Mark and I have been running our coin shop in Adelaide for 6 years now and it's a full-on experience. So my only interaction I see is the new member registrations that come in via email. I see those and I think that one's a spammer, that one's a spammer etc etc. Nevol does an amazing job overseeing this but as I understand is looking to step back in her retirement. The only other time I hear the forum mentioned is when Mark needs to some sort of fix because of some sort of problem. So what I came here for today was to see what users are getting out of this platform still as we've seen a long term discontinuance of forums moving more to the Facebook groups type of deal. I came to see if there were recent posts, discussions and member interactions.
Mark and I would both welcome any comments you have regarding the future, if this is still a useful platform, if you come here often, post often. Do you use it to search old member posts and information? If it was to close for active discussion, would it stay as an archived reference for member only viewing. I certainly wouldn't like to see us lose all the wonderful contributions. What do others think?
I don't do FB so I still like to pop in here. It has been quiet of late but I'd hate to lose this little community.
Obviously I can't expect people to carry it if it is too much trouble and there isn't the interest any more.
I'd be sad to see it go.
I still open the forum every day, but I rarely post as I don't usually have much to contribute to any discussions that might be taking place.
I often pop in to see if there's any new developments. Likewise, I'd be sad if it wasn't here, there's some great threads which often make a good reference. Facebook worries me at times due to any group's potential to "disappear" on a whim.
I am here every day since I am a moderator and Nevol does not view everyday because of illness.
Still keep an eye on things and remove spammers as soon as I see them.

I come here almost daily to check out what is going on with Australian coins (and banknotes), past and present.
I would be sad if this little community would go away. But, obviously, the use of forums has changed a lot during the last decade. Younger people use FB, Insta, ectr. instead of forums. But these ''social media'' can quickly turn into bubbles.
So, for me, this forum still has use even if traffic isn't what it used to be.
I pop in for a look around on most days but don't post often, although, the occasional search through old posts for info is always rewarding. I do greatly appreciate this platform that Mark and Purple provide, at some expense and time, I'm sure. I don't do Facebook, wouldn't know where to start. Would be a loss for many if the forum was to disappear, but understandable if circumstances were unfavorable.

Even tho we are no longer collecting I still have a look on the forum to see if anything new is happening. The forum has been quiet for sometime now with not many new posts.
I like to look at previous posts as a reference to check back on stuff.
It would be a shame to loose all the years of posts, discussions and member interactions on all the posts.
I like to look back at the noodling posts and photo gallery to see what people have been able to get in circulation, even when it is getting harder to get the coins from the banks.
It would be sad to see the forum disappear, but I do understand that more and more people are joining other media to get their information.
There is a lot of lurkers on this site that don't post but read the information.
Yes, I confess to being one of those 'lurkers' mainly.
I don't have much to contribute as i am not doing any coin research.
This site is a trove of searchable information and a reference point.
I do wonder how many site browsers are actual coin enthusiasts with actual collections ?
There may be many old people like me winding down their hobbies?
Seems to be a general thing, just look at the demise of hobby magazines.
I note there are about 4 different stamp magazines in my local paper shop but 1 or nil coin magazines.
So stamps are now a larger hobby than coins?
Same thing with vintage cars, i subscribe to one car magazine and one electronics mag.
There are no others now, even trade magazines are scarce.
Subscription is the only way to buy a print copy and along with that comes the ability to download a magazine on line.
That i think is the death of print media.
The current generation do not read books, magazines or log onto a specialist site like this.
Just check with your grandchildren.
Its easier for them to use the search engine and top hits will be utube facebook or rubbish opinion sites.
That's because all comms are done by smartphones or tablet, even laptops are dwindling and desk computers almost gone.
One more generation and all thinking will be done for them on the smartphone by the government!
Thats old person speak but you can see where its heading.
Back to the site, all power to the moderators in maintaining this site in the jungle world of internet.

I try to look in on this site daily, to get info on new coin releases. I also don't contribute
much, as I don't have enough knowledge on Aussie coins (or any others for that matter).
I wish it was easier to post images on this site, without having to upload into the gallery first.
On CCF we can just upload direct from PC to our current post.
I do use Facebook quite often, but usually to see foreign coins. I don't buy or trade on them.

Footy season is time poor for me so i don't post much but read Posts here almost daily.

I stay off FB as far as Coins go after a couple of bad experiences,its amazing the scams people dream up.

Maybe making more parts public would welcome more use. I don't particularly want to use Facebook or Discord or that sort of thing - if nothing else, this forum is easier to track and search.

I'm sorry but I should post more. I was away for the forum for many years as I was being trolled by a former member. I've enjoyed being back.
Getting access to coin rolls/bags these days is a bit of a trial so my inclination to noodle has fallen away and my posting levels on the forum with it. Still interested in more significant errors eg rabbit ears, but otherwise the broader aspect of error coin collecting has taken a steep nosedive.
I haven't been tempted to the dark side by Facebook yet though :zomby: and I still pop in here from time to time to see what is cooking.
The forum has been a valuable resource over the years and I would like to express my thanks to Mark and Kathryn for putting up with us. :good:

I browse the forum most days.
That said, there was a period of about a year or so when I didn't visit. Not sure why.
There is good information here because there are some serious collectors here who have their finger on the pulse.
I use facebook and would happily move there, but facebook forums(groups) seem to have a different nature than what here does. And I mean facebook not in a good way.
I only come here when something goes wrong and usually read a few posts then. That's about it, though. That being said, I don't read coin groups on Facebook either.
From my point of view I am looking to divest myself of things that take up my time, and while this forum doesn't take up much of my time, it's still a few hours a year. I'd be happy to hand it over to someone else, but in it's current state they'd need to know something about the administration of a Linux server. There's a cost of course too, which I think is a couple of hundred a year for the server, SSL certificates, and domain registration. It doesn't need to be run the same way as I do it, but any server it gets moved to needs PHP & MySQL to be able to run the forum software.
If no-one is willing to take it over then I'm happy to keep it going and cover the costs for the time being. But there will be a point where I'm going to not want to do it anymore.
I come in, mostly on weekends, now.

I check in every now and then. I like to see who's still posting. A lot of you seem like family starting with the SS days. There were many people whose comments I looked forward to and enjoyed reading. AC is still one of my Facebook friends. Another I haven't heard from in years. I'm out of touch now with Australian coins for about 10 years since I moved into a retirement community. I hope the forum can continue for those who enjoyed it as I did, but I no longer have anything to contribute.
I know how Mark feels. As one ages, the simplest tasks become a burden.

I am one of the few that have tried to revive it, with a weekly post in Silver Saturday and some other threads, but this place is dullsville and its sad, as its very good. The quality is really high. I cam here after I got kicked off Coin Community Family for being too autistic basically. I am also on Numista's forums, which are fairly good, but you get a lot of silly posts, trolls and young members who want to put memes and threads about Pokemon and funny pictures (American memeography) on it.
Plus we have heaps of threads from people showing a junky coin or super common coin and thinking it's the treasure of the Marie Celeste etc. Put we have some quality people there too (Mostly Americans, Brits and Australians).
This one is good too, friendly and quite liberal. But there are some issues. I do realise its a labour of love and upgrades, bells and whistles will mean more ads, sponsored posts etc and hard work which people can not really do now.
1. The layout and design is very basic and old fashioned, it looks like something from around 1998. Text is very old and not great for those of us with less than perfect 20/20 vision.
2. The limits on picture size and number, are truly Draconian. Most of us are Aussies or in my case a Kiwi. I am not sure about there, but here I get 325gb a second internet for $101 a month and it can download and upload a 300kb 500 x 500 pixel image of a silver crown in lightning speed, but this 200kb limit and 14.5mb in total is like 2005 levels. Its like in 2007, whe we got an internet "ration" of 5gb a month.
3. Some of the threads like Australian coins, could benefit from a wiki or just a dedicated picture thread, where everyone shows their new Australian purchases, this idea worked well on CCF.
4. Start a thread, like we choose a year a day and we all show our coins from it, or say a thread like "Show us your 1927 Sixpences" or what's your favourite Florin etc.
5. Advertise it more, I only knew this existed through word of mouth. Maybe link it to a well known Australian dealer - like Stampboards is linked to Glenn Stephens (I was on that for 11 years and got offside with Stephen and got suspended like 11 times, but finally left as I got sick of the racism, homophobia and stuck in the 1978 Cammoweal, ACDC, Sherbert howzat, golden holden, meatpie, we're full up, Rodney Rude era Australia they lived in.
Its a nice thread, but I feel like its a haunted ballroom and the Caretaker wants to compose an album of distorted 1930s ballroom music to it vibes. Being 49, I honestly feel like I am pre embryonical in this place!

I think Sir StacksALot looks after it these days, with the help of others. It's basically unmoderated because we don't need to be moderated.
It's a breakaway group from CCF. A few members from here on there too.
There is a wiki though not sure how much it gets updated.
Never heard of it but interested enough to go look for it.
