Triggersmob spotted the PNC on one of the coin groups on Facebook that both of us are members of and urged me to buy it.
He had to explain why I should buy it since I normally do not pay any attention to PNC sets.
So why the heck did the Australian mint decide to only release this 50 cent coin only in this set with a mintage of 30,000?
Total cost of the PNC set was £13.80 including postage.
I don't plan on breaking apart the set unless there is a reason to do so.

Yeah odd - I wonder if it was the Royal Mint or the Royal Australian Mint that initiated this one? Or rather the Royal Mail or Australia Post.

If you are lucky you can get one of those here for around $60. They were once dearer. That is Aussie dollars btw so yes, that was a good buy.
There are quite a few error varieties associated with this issue. You might do well if you can got one of the varieties listed in my PNC book for the general retail price. As I understand it, the bespoke 50 cent coin was issued to make the PNC more desirable. There are other examples of coin types and varieties only available in PNC'S. The 1969 Yarralumba issue has a special coin rather than a generic circulation issue, The 2003 Coronation is even more exclusive. The coin was struck in Aluminum Bronze rather than Cupronickel-nikel. I am impressed that have 29 books in 40 years.
I bought one of these and opened it up for the fifty cent piece.
From my recollection this is the only way to get a normal fifty cent piece for the year. So it went straight into my QE II currency album.
Not sure what I'll do with the other coin and the folder that it came in, probably will continue to sit around forever.

I have now acquired a second one of these for the same price that I paid for the first one which was £13.80.
Now how to decide which to keep and which I consider sending to Steve so that he can trade it since I don't need two of them.

How straight the stamps are?
Coins in both look to be good condition.
The other thing that I am curious of is that I managed to acquire two for a decent price in the UK and have seen two or three others being sold for a bit of a higher price, does that mean that more were sold in the UK than in Australia?

Occasional you'll find one where they have stuck some of the stamps on upside down. Seems like that generates some interest as well.

2005 50 Cent PNC World Heritage
A limited edition joint issue PNC that contains the lowest mintage CoA 50¢ ever struck.
The RAM, Australia Post, the British Royal Mint and Royal Mail combined forces to release this truly special PNC in 2005 to commemorate a range of unique world heritage sites across the world.
Just 30,000 such PNC's were released, and only 5,000 of these were distributed throughout Australia.
This is in fact the only way you can get a 2005 dated 50¢ coin with the coat of arms design on the reverse - it's claimed by some to be the rarest 50¢ ever struck.
Now I have three of these. All purchased for £13.80 and I will be sending two down to Triggersmob in Australia.
