The Purple Penny
17 hrs ·
Please share this post. Unfortunately today we were robbed, someone stole a full album of more than 100 of world and Australian predecimal coin errors. Images of the thief are with Police but we would appreciate it if you could keep an eye out on Facebook groups, gumtree and wherever for a sudden influx of errors. The most distinctive errors are:

New Zealand Sixpence Split Planchet Pair (NO IMAGE)
New Zealand 5 cent, struck 30% off centre.

Also below are some images of other more minor errors that have been stolen. PLEASE SHARE THIS POST and keep an eye out for a sudden influx of Australian pre-decimal erorrs.

Sorry to hear the bad news.

Whoever stole the album must have known what he/she was after.

Hope the so in so gets caught.

Sorry to hear about this.  There are definitely some low lives around.

Hopefully the thief will be ID'd fairly quickly and your coins will be found safe.

I'm thinking that if they are identified they will get a little "smack" on the wrist. It brings back memories of Derry Hinch and his wall of shame, put their images out there for all to see, best of luck.

Can we see the image of the lowlife, perhaps one of us has seen him perusing coin fairs or has dealt with him.

Gut wrenching!  Very sorry to hear the news.  Suggest you contact ANDA [if you haven't already done so].  The committee does a very job in getting the word out to the members.  More than likely the thief will approach one of these dealers to fence the goods.  Would be very helpful if you can pass onto ANDA the name and phone number of the police officer in charge of enquiries.  Good luck guys.  Times are tough enough without this sort of thing.

Update 5pm: Police have arrested a man today following the theft of collectable coins at Mawson Lakes last month.

About 3.45pm on Friday 28 August, a man and woman entered a business on Hurtle Parade and the man allegedly placed a coin in his pants pocket without staff noticing.

While staff were in a back room, the woman allegedly stole a folder containing 75-200 collectable coins, placing them in her handbag and left before staff had realised.

Just after 1pm today (Thursday 24 September) Northern District patrols searched an address at Peterhead where they located a quantity of the stolen coins.

A 55-year-old man from Peterhead was arrested and charged with theft and unlawful possession. The female suspect has been identified and will be questioned at a later date.
