Title: End of the line
Post by: interest on January 22, 2013, 11:48:15 PM
It looks as if the end of the line is in view, today I put the last 5cent into my Dansco Supreme & also the last 10 cents as well. Please see photos.
I am going to the end of the year with the rest of the circulating coins & that's it for me.
No more decimals. 1966 - 2013 that's it, albums full.

Oh yes, I also have completed Dansco's of all Pre-decimals.
So my sole intention is to upgrade them as needed.

Nah, time to stop. Hoping that Lizzie will abdicate but can't see that happening, or maybe she will fall off the perch, that would solve all issue's.
 oops just joking.

As you have all The circulating coins why not add proofs to the mix?
Or take a look at the US and Canadian silver coins, Some of these are great looking coins and still fairly easy to get.

I'll also support that suggestion. I was actually thnking the other day about the next few obverses (if the monarchy hang on that long). Will is balding quite young and will probably have nothing left soon. Has there been a bald british monarch in the last few centuries? Maybe we'll get a nice crowned obverse. Something like the KGV obverse used on Aussie coins rather than the crowned KGVI one used on many other countries. I find that one disgusting.

No problem. It ins't plainly obvious that it's a bald spot as opposed to a receding hairline though, even on the proof I linked to.
I don't think William IV had a whole lot either but his portrait doesn't openly suggest baldness:

Interest:   I notice in your opening post on this thread, that your pages have been dated with DANSCO Supreme Pages.   May I ask where you got those pages and are all your pages dated through to 2013 and beyond?

The reason I ask is that I have done the same as you, that is a complete UNC set of circulating Decimals but the pages I have have not been dated.

Hi Goldie.
Dansco 5 cent dated from 1966 to 2013
with circulation figures from 1966 to 2000.
10 cent dated 1966 to 2013
with circulation figures from 1966 to 2000.
20 cent dated from 1966 to 2008
with description and circulation figures from 1966 to 2000.
50 cent dated from 1966 to 2006
with description and circulation figures from 1966 to 2000,
but not including the 2000 Millennium.
One dollar dated from 1984 to 2002
with description but no circulation figures at all.
All albums were purchased direct from Dansco  USA.

What I have just done, is take an empty Dansco page into Bunnings,   got them to use their computer colour matching service to get a sample pot of the Dansco colour, which was a good match. I have a bunch of Avery labels (white) which I am going to paint with my sample pot then print all the missing information on coloured labels, cut to size, then stick in the Dansco under the appropriate coins.
Sounds like a good idea just hope it works.

why not simply put the coins in a 2x2 album and mark the coins with the date and the grade and totally forget about the dansco BS.
Remember these are YOUR coins and don't let ANYONE tell you which ones you need to complete a set.
As far as I am concerned everyone has their own personal way of collecting, Why let an album manufacuturer decide what is collecable.

I couldn't agree more Rob.  They also messed up the Steve Erwin $1 coin.  He looks like a gargoyle with snakes coming out of his head.

No albums allowed in my house.

I only "Evolved" from albums last year, best thing I have ever done :good:
The amount of damage I did to my predecimal coins in those shoddy push in albums would make a grown man cry :dash1:
I love the "Free hand" approach of the 2x2 albums and the flexibility afforded with these. :dance2:

I can see merit with what you are saying, but this thread is all about my end of the line with decimals, for a lot of reasons, not just the end of an album page. That just gives me another reason.
I'm committed to Dansco's now so I'll leave them as is.
I don't use the old press in type, all mine are in the Supreme albums were you can see both sides.
Having said that, I do use a lot of 2X2's don't have them in albums just loose.
Oop's I do have a couple of sets of pennies & half pennies in the old push in type albums, but they really don't count for much so it doesn't matter
that they touch each other, there is no verdigris to contaminate or spread so I just leave them as is.

All my pre decimal circulating coin collection, my Decimal UNC and circulating coins are all in DANSCO Supreme Albums.

The only coins that I store in 2 x2's in other type albums are my scarce coins.   IE 1923 Halfpenny, 1930 Penny, 1966 Wavey Line 20c, etc   All my error coins are stored in 2 x 2 as well.

The main problem is storeage space.   With the house chock a block with cupbaords etc my collection has expanded that I have to have two Security Boxes in the CBD.

I must now think of consolidating my collection and start selling off what I really don't want any more.

There is only one more coin to get, the AFL dollar & that's it.
I now have one each of all one cent coins, all Mints.
One each of all two cent coins all mints.
One each of all five cent coins all mints.
One each of all ten cent coins all mints.
One each of all twenty cent coins all mints plus wavy 66, pointy & not pointy A's
Nearly, one each of all fifty cent coins, don't have Yarralumla.
One each of all two dollar coins including fakes.

Dollar coins...WOW got a heap of these.

from 1991 when you could mint your own, have got at least one (mostly five or ten) from each of the mint your own coin press's
for each year, plus the main pressed version, plus any mobile pressed coins from that year.

If you take just one year, lets say 2005 Gallipoli for example.
That year I bought
10 coins with "C"MM from each press at the RAM =20 coins
10 coins with "C" from main press's =30 coins
10 coins with "G" MM =40 coins
5 coins with "G" from AWM =45 coins
10 coins with "C" from main press's =55 coins
10 coins with "S" from  Pacific Stamp =65 coins
10 coins with "S" from ANDA mobile press =75 coins
10 coins  with "B" from main press's =85 coins
10 coins with "B" from EKA mobile press =95 coins
10 coins with "B" from ANDA mobile press =105 coins
10 coins with "M" from main press's =115 coins
10 coins with "M" from ANDA mobile press =125 coins

So up until 2013 that was the quantity of each & every dollar coin in albr except those PAD coloured to which I only bought 5 of each.
Okay why 10 of each? seemed like a good idea at the time had a well paying job so I didn't miss the money, wife was okay with it all.
But late 2012 I just got sick of all the coins I had to buy just to keep my albums up to date,  the mint has caused me to lose interest,
I mean the price of  coins $8 for a twenty cent piece
$19.95 for the AFL coin!
Becoming far to much of a joke.

I use to buy nearly everything that was released, stopped doing that quite a few years back, I have a lot of pretty things & gee a lot of junk.

So now all my albums are completely up to date (apart from the AFL dollar) that's where they are going to stay.
Unless Lizzy falls off the perch next year, well then I'll have to get all the coins so there will be an end to this Reign.
That's not to say I wont be buying any more decimal coins, I like the look of next years Mint & Proof sets so I will be getting them plus MYO coins. But no more pulling apart sets to retrieve 1 coin & putting the rest of the set away, that's gone.
Pre decimals will be my main concern from here on.
So this is the end of the line as all my albums are full & up to date.

It will only be the end of the line when they stop minting these denominations.
