I am going through the web site of Museums Victoria looking for photos, and I came across this:
https://collections.museumvictoria.com.au/items/68309 - Proof Coin - 2 Cents, Australia, 1977, Perth Mint
Now... one, such a proof is not listed anywhere. And two, the coin doesn't seem proof to me.
What do you all think? Is it just mis-labelled?
It doesn't seem proof to me. This (https://collections.museumvictoria.com.au/items/1129435) is what it would look like.
Lots of 2c made at Perth Mint in 1977 from the RAM's web page. https://www.ramint.gov.au/two-cents (https://www.ramint.gov.au/two-cents)
Sure, it's not frosted, but that doesn't mean it's not proof. The pre-decimals were never frosted, so I'll leave the strike of that one to the experts.
"Acquisition Information: Donation from Raymond T. Jewell - Max Stern & Co. Ltd."
It doesn't look like most decimal proofs and possibly was donated described as a proof.
There were 55,006 1977 proof sets minted which all contained a proof 1977 2c coin.
The 1977 2c coin being discussed here is Not a proof and as far as I am aware there were No Specimen strike ( similar to the old pre decimal proofs) 1977 2c coins minted either.
