That;s bad for everyone considering their service is worst than ever
Thanks,always something increasing in price.
Just checked the price to send 250g letter overseas.
Gone up from $9 to $12, that's a 33% increase. What a ripoff. :(
However they have introduced a new 125gram letter for overseas which is a bonus.
Before it was $3.00 for 50 gram and then $9.00 for up to 250 gram.
The $3.00 for 50 gram is unchanged in the new rates too.
If you had a letter that weighed 60 gram before the new rates came in you got pinged for $9.00 ouch
Now if it comes in under the 125 gram it is only $7.50 ... Bonus
It used to be cheaper to split a letter containing coins if they weighed say 90 gram into 2 letters at 45gram for $3.00 each if you could be bothered.
So with the new rates if you are sending coins in a letter that weighs say 170 gram you could split that too into a 125 gram at $7.50 and a 45 gram one at $3.00 total cost $10.50 instead of the up to 250gram letter at $12.00
So not all bad, Aussie Post do an ok job in my opinion and the workers there are great - Cheers Mike
Hi Guys
Just new here...so Hi....
Can you clarify something for me?? I was under the impression that AuPost will not legally carry coins/rounds or the like. If one is honest and put say 2012 Proof Silver Bird Coin and the AP official sees the description, then they are not obliged to accept this??
Also if this is the case, then if you put coin on the insurance they would disallow this if it were lost??
Trying to sell a few coins on eBay and I am not putting coin on the package???
Insurance is so BAD. Took me 3 months and a call to the ombudesman for them to pay AUD44 for insurance.
Thank you
Australia Post has several rules that might apply. Without going and reading back through their terms and conditions, I recall the principal rule refers to a maximum of $200 value of cash can be posted and that must be registered (generally no longer possible with a parcel). I think somewhere else they have replaced the registered designation with Signature on Delivery -in other words "tracked". Possibly an insurance component required too.
The various mints, coin dealers and Australia Post itself send coins -often of a value in excess of $200- through the post.
Make of that what you will; I think, being cynical, A.P. has given itself a good out to reject claims of loss.
It is very common for eBay sellers and collectors to send coins as letters. If you obey the size and weight restrictions then you are usually safe.

Thanks
Jeff has got the clues on AP, my only comment is DONT just throw a coin loose into an envelope and expect it to get through a high speed sorting machine in one piece! Always PACK a coin securely so it wont move even if its just taped to a folded invoice or piece of thin cardboard. I once had a complete d**k h**d send me a Unc Florin loose in a letter envelope!! It reached me as a VF Florin in a PO body bag with appropriate comments about how it jammed up the machine and caused a envelope shower!
I used to use padded bags as a matter of course, but that was 10 years ago when they were cheap.
I think nowadays...what Jeff says.
Fred.
Thank you.
All good comments. I am used to good packing as I send a lot of stuff overseas. But good to get confirmation. I more concerned about sharing the contents with AP.
I will be getting a lot of Brilliant Uncirculated 1 oz silver coins. Not normally my business, so I am just trying to dot some "i"s and cross some "t"s. My next task is to find out how to sell them....I am guessing eBay.
great comments - thanks
