I have heard elsewhere that the RAM is putting out another 12 50cent coins later this year with 6 Holden & 6 Ford Motorsport cars on them as follows...
HOLDEN MOTOR SPORT LEGEND 50c coins;
HT MONARO GTS 350 (70)
LJ TORANA XU-1 (1972)
LX TORANA A9X (1979)
VK COMMODORE (84)
VR COMMODORE (96)
VX COMMODORE'(01)
FORD MOTORSPORT LEGEND 50 cent coins;
MUSTANG BOSS 302 (69)
XY FALCON GT-(1971)
XC FALCON HARDTOP (1977)
XD FALCON 'TRU-BLU (1981)
SIERRA RS500 '(1989)
BA FALCON (2006)
Not sure of the mintage but I think there will be a set in a tin as well as individual sales?
The Tins have a non coloured limited edition coin.
Anyone else heard anything?
Cheers Mike
These were also on the currency determination list:
HK Monaro GTS 327 1968
HR Falcon GT 1967

That would be an XR Falcon GT ... :)
And they must be the tin limited edition coins.
They are already available on the RAM Webshop.
Ford Motorsport 7 coin set & Holden Motorsport 7 coin set both in nice looking tins at $120 each
The tins do have an exclusive coin in them similar to the previous Ford & Holden tins so get in quick if you want one of them.
The Ford exclusive tin coin is the Bathurst Legend XR Falcon GT.
The Holden exclusive tin coin is the Bathurst Legend HK Monaro GTS.
Tins with exclusive coins limited to 10,000 mintage.
The other six coins in each of the tins are available separately for $15 each as is the tin.
Cheers Mike
And quite a number already listed on eBay -most at highly inflated prices. "MOTORSPORT" coins (https://www.ebay.com.au/sch/Coins/58520/i.html?_udlo=100&_udhi=500&_ftrt=901&_ftrv=1&_sabdlo&_sabdhi&_samilow&_samihi&_sadis=15&_stpos=2852&_dmd=1&_ipg=200&_fosrp=1&_sop=16&_mPrRngCbx=1&_nkw=motorsport&rt=nc&_trksid=p2045573.m1684)
Even some already SOLD (https://www.ebay.com.au/sch/Coins/58520/i.html?_udlo=100&_udhi=500&_ftrt=901&_ftrv=1&_sabdlo&_sabdhi&_samilow&_samihi&_sadis=15&_stpos=2852&_dmd=1&_ipg=200&_fosrp=1&_sop=16&_mPrRngCbx=1&_nkw=motorsport&LH_Complete=1&rt=nc&_trksid=p2045573.m1684).
Geez . . these Ebay thieves don't muck about do they?
Mike
I just don't understand it.
I have ordered two sets of each directly from the RAM and I asked the gent who was taking my order "how many sets are left". His reply more than half left.
If that is the case, then 5,000 sets are still available at $120.00 per set.
If people are buying at inflated prices on Ebay, why aren't they phoning the RAM to order at issue price.
Crazy if you ask me.
Could be eBay's marketing is better than the RAM's.
If you've got a history of buying Holden/Ford merchandise, and this pops up in your feed, you might just click buy now - especially if it's listed as rare/selling fast.
Many people wouldn't know the RAM has a website.
Ram shop now shows Holden set as "sold out" and Downies has a limit of one per order.
Looks like these will be much the same as the original Holden and Ford sets for another frenzy.
I was sitting at my pc this morning at around 9am when I got the email about the Mint Issue for August.
So went straight onto the RAM webshop to order 1 set of each.
Then went on here to let you guys know.
Now sold out 8 hours later .. Must be a record?
Mike
Well, I bought more than a couple of tins as part of my retirement plan.
Though, my usual grumble ... I certainly haven't seen the returns on the previous Ford 12 coin tin sets, compared to the original Holden 12 coin sets.
I know there were 10,000 Ford sets, vs the 7,500 Holden sets ... but I am still surprised at the pricing disparity.
There just seems to be bucket loads of the Ford sets on eBay, but hardly any Holden sets.
I know the Holden sets were released only at the Mint and Bathurst, vs online for the Fords ... but I was expecting the Ford tins to go up a bit more.
I was only able to get one Holden set off ebay, for about 50% above issue price. Would love another, but not at a 600% increase.
The Holden one has sold out already & the Tin only is temp unavailable at the Mint.
Out of stock at Wynyard Coins, sold out at Downies as well.
Why are these so popular?

The 7,000 camp sites alone, literally get sold out every year.
I myself have plowed more money into my Calais than I'll ever spend on coins (I slapped a big Garrett turbo onto the V8 back in 2006 - ground breaking in Australia at the time).

The Holden and Ford fans have existed for longer than the decimal system, so yeah, they have a bigger crowd to draw from than someone who solely collects coins.
If they released a "Facebook celebration" coin, I reckon it would sell out even faster.
Nice Pics., there is a bit of rubber at the rear in the Drag photo.
The V8 Super cars under lights at Eastern Creek last weekend was a spectacular event.
43.000 people turned up to watch on a very cold winters night in Sydney's outer western suburbs.
Not that there's much difference these days between Ford & Holden, few decals.
Motor racing has always been popular in Australia, with Bathurst being the pinnacle.

You've got a good eye.
They are a set of VT SS mag wheels which I had cut and widened to 9".
No one in Sydney wanted to have a bar of cutting a single piece alloy mag, and re-welding it. You know ... wheels failing at 140mph aren't desirable. I eventually found a guy in QLD which was happy to take my money. They were a work of art, which then had some Mickey Thompson drag radials in a 17" diameter slapped on them.
The car was always about being a "sleeper", and I didn't want to look like a yahoo with steelies on the rear. I wanted to drive to the track, and run it in that configuration.
Never did run the time I was chasing. I built the thing to do 10's, but 4 engines and 4 gearboxes later, I just decided to run it as a quick street car. The car modification game can be a cruel mistress.
Lovely machine Seedy! :good: (I like a good sleeper).
Lovely also to see that the Ford sets have sold out. (2nd place, but still a place on the podium :laugh2:)
I am deeply impressed that your number plate is SEEDY
Shout out to my Two Double-O Twos

The RAM should really rethink their marketing strategy. 10,000 sets (less dealer supplies*) and three sets maximum per order. Doesn't leave many for regular customers.
Only took me two minutes to find eBay listings for these that were lodged prior to the Mint Issue email being sent.§
One has to ask "why the hell do they feed the secondary market profiteers at the expense of their regular customers?"
Their principal function is to produce circulating coin for Australia. A secondary, but rather important, function is to produce collector coins as a profit making centre. So why are they feeding the profits to third parties who are able to game the system?
The alphabet series $1 coins managed to piss off a lot of their regular buyers and now they have found an alternative way to further piss off the customers who didn't leave them then; the original Holden/Ford sets issue was reasonably effective discouragement to the remaining loyal customers and this week's effort has "fine tuned" that even more.
*I presume dealers are bound to sell them at the same price as the RAM shop.
§Interesting that most already sold listings have postage time promises that mean they should be sent to the buyers before the RAM actually starts shipping them. :tease:
They seem Sold Out ... small allocation to dealers but of course most dealers also list on thieveBay which is where you will most likely see the rest of the 5000 allocation
Also there is more stashed away by RAM for other events + GMH and FORD have allocations for officially licenced product
i wouldn't touch them . stick to predecimals

My thoughts exactly.
Big culture shock for me was when Ebay started in Australia,1999/2000?,RAM sets/coins were selling for less than i paid for them. In the case of silver/gold even thou. the price had risen the Coins were also selling for less than i paid. Haven't purchased much Perth/RAM issues since.Just my personal view, all my enthusiasm since has reverted to my School Kid fascination/hobby with Pre-Dec.

I can understand why they do it though. If the demand for a NCLT coin is 10,000, it makes sense to mint less than that, say 8000. Otherwise there will be no demand on the secondary market and resale value would fall sharply. It would piss collectors off.
These are great coins collect them if you like them

Of course, but they are just novelty Coin with little value other than personal enjoyment.
Its just a shame the Mints are strangling the Golden Goose with year after year of this marketing crap just so those at the top of the tree can meet targets to get their bonuses.

even common slabbed decimals are worthless now days unless they are the top population coins or a rare date
