I went into Melbourne CBD this day and finally got my hands on the three coin proof set that the RAM has produced in relation to the celebration of the $2.00 coin.
I first thought, oh yeah, another way to suck money from me but I am impressed with the purchased.
With only 1988 sets produced, each coin with a different Obverse and all dated 2018, this is a must for persons who wish to maintain ones collection.
I saw one set sold for over $200.00 on eBay the other day. Further, whilst in the shop, five others were after the same thing but the holdings within the shop were for orders only. Some long faces when they were told they were sold out.
The 12 coin set is also quite nice but a bit steep at $75.00. Again these 12 coins are required to maintain a complete set of $2.00 coins.
It's funny though. It's a twelve coin collection of all the designs. But they are dated 2018, so they aren't the original coins at all, but new ones.
I don't know how anyone is expecting to complete a set of ALL coins, with so many unique coins and PNC releases in a year.

I used to have as near as damn to complete sets, but with the advent of the A - Z coins they lost me, now I only buy what I like, which is a fraction of what I once bought.
Missed out on the three two dollar proof sets. Oh well not to worry. Just one less thing I buy.
Now I wish they had of bought those A - z coins out ten years ago, would have saved me a lot of money.
You don't need the proof set in order to have a complete collection of Australian $2 coins, but you do need the uncirculated set. This is because the 3 coins in the proof set are also included in the uncirculated set, albeit in a slightly lower grade, but the uncirculated set contains 8 unique coins that have not been released anywhere else. So, unless your goal is to collect each coin in the highest possible grade, the uncirculated set should be more than adequate. :ok:
Don't forget that the three $2.00 proof set are all dated 2018 with three different obverses.

So are the ones in the 12-coin uncirculated set. Every single one of them is dated 2018, and it includes the Standard (Aboriginal Elder) design with 3 different obverses (RM, IRB and Changeover). How is the proof set not a subset of the uncirculated one? :dontknow:
Looking at the three Proof Coins, the same can be found in the 12 coin set but Unc.
If that is a subset, then yes.
The 3 coin proof set was good value at issue price but I missed out
Very ordinary how a few RAM dealers decided to look after themselves instead of customers by listing on our friend eBay before fulfilling orders
I almost missed out.
I am not sure of the release date for the three coin proof set but saw the advert for them and shot off an email to Downies to order my set.
Lucky for me they came good with only one set per person/per household.
I am at a wonder how some private people were able to secure many sets and make a killing on the secondary market.
Australia Post supposedly had a small number available to purchase today when they sent out there newsletter at 11am.
I phoned after 1pm when I got home and was told they had sold there allocation as well.
The coins were released on Friday 1st June
RAM stuffed up the release date was supposed to be Monday 4th June and I think certain dealers who knew this took advantage of the scenario
Australia Post only received 40 sets and 2 customers bought the entire stock .... very greedy
Just received my 12 coin set of $2 coins and there is 2 purple coronation coins. Missing the green remembrance coin.
Talk about quality control.
How could the RAM send out the orders without checking inside the folder?
Wow.
I'm always tolerant of mistakes when you have low-cost resources doing a low paying job. However when there is such a massive uplift over face value for a coin, you think the premium would warrant that extra bit of care and attention

Get it on Ebay quick.
You'll make a fortune from that error. :)
I got 2 of each lot but I paid dearly for them ,
12 coins sets cost me 90.00 each ,
The 3 coin proof set cost me 213.00 dollars and 205.00 each
That is the only way I could get them
So I am still happy that I got them
Plus I got one roll of each of the anzacs , 2014/15/16/17/18 for 200.00 dollars .
