Hey Folks,
Please note you can not use ebay gift cards for coin purchases anymore. They have changed the T&Cs on the website. However if you buy the gift cards from a retailer(physical cards) the T&Cs won't have the same. (Misleading if you asked me).
Just be aware ..
Its all 'Big Brother',i got a warning Email from them yesterday for 'cancelling a transaction',i've only been trading with them for over 18years. Everytime i go to sell something i get the Emails to use Ebay shipping.
I hope Alibaba does set up shop in Oz. just to give this greedy, overbearing and obnoxious Co. some competition.
Thanks for the heads up. I know you couldn't get discounts on the Coins any more but didn't know Gift cards are restricted now.
Very disappointing... I have made an inquiry with ACCC... lets see what they say,,.
eBay Australia is abnoxious hosting crooks whom we cannot report properly
I have a friend living in Canada and very few people over there use eBay to buy and sell
I'm all for eBay Australia facing a Royal Commission into their practices

Yeah,i'm think this is the beginning of the end for them, the Juggernaut has peaked and will slowly slide downhill over the coming Decades IMO. They don't pay fair taxes on their Billion $ profits, both locally and back to Washington but extract every last cent out of their Sellers.
,I don't know anyone,Friends/Family etc, that is happy with the way they treat the average Seller these days. They try to dominate everything you do on their platform, bombarded with Emails every day to do this or that,or buy this or that, its just 'Big Brother' tactics that has to stop.
I've been on the USA site since the late 90's and Ebay Oz. since around 2000 and they were a much fairer & reasonable Co. back then, but what they have turned into with their Staff fighting to get their snout in the trough is sad. ..bring on Alibaba.
eBay previously had New Zealand, Indian and Chinese sites and all were closed because they were unable to compete with local selling sites. Why? I don't know about the others but in New Zealand sellers and buyers deserted eBay en masse and went to trademe (https://www.trademe.co.nz/)when they started the compulsory use of PayPal stunt.
Flipkart (https://www.flipkart.com/) bought out eBay India.
China, taobao (https://world.taobao.com/) just was too competetive for eBay. Taobao Categories English Version (https://tbfocus.com/zoom/english-taobao-categories)
So, hope for Australia yet if a decent local, competitor emerges. Best bet, in my opinion, would be if trademe decided to expand into Australia.
Okay, I got a reply from them stating all T&Cs in the site apply regardless of where I buy the gift cards from. What annoys me more is it was okay to pay with gift cards a month or so ago but now it is not good enough.
I have$800 of ebay gift cards now :-/ ... what do I use then for now ? :s

I don't suppose you can get a refund from wherever you got them from?
Why gift cards in the first place?

No mate, no refunds as it is good as cash once issued.
I get points etc for my credit cards/minor discounts when they are on special... it is not much but when you buy a few expensive coins, it all adds up.
May be time for a 4K TV :yahoo:

I hear you Basil ... Sold.com was a great site where I used to buy coins from until these grubs bought it out, eBay is becoming irrelevant these days for numismatics I find Facebook groups better especially for links to sales ... eBay Australia has lost most people buyers and sellers alike and good riddence to the bastards
Gift cards these days cannot expire. You will get to use it up eventually.

Yes, true... back of the gift card says it is expiring in 12 months. So I asked the question from their so called customer service team. Waiting for a response back from them...
This might put your mind at ease seeing you are in NSW. NSW Fair Trading Gift cards and gift vouchers (http://www.fairtrading.nsw.gov.au/sites/ftw/About_us/News_and_events/Whats_new/Gift_cards.page).
I believe similar moves afoot in other states (maybe already done in some).
If eBay proves recalcitrant then would not hurt to show them that and advise you will be wanting your legal right.
Good on ya Jeff. :good: I thought that should be the case but too crook at the moment to assist much more.
Thanks Jeff ... Yes I will be speaking to ACCC and Fair Trading regarding this ... I will let you all know what happens.
ACCC and Fair Trading won't do anything about eBay
I listed a few items Today and was charged 'listing feés' for the first time in years. They must have re-introduced them to coincide with Quicksales closing down.
I hope they get some credible competition in OZ. in the years ahead, just too greedy and overbearing as far as ordinary sellers go.
I used to support their attitude/Business model as it was still much cheaper than the overpriced Ads in the Age or SMH classifieds, but not any more.
Did you get the 4 Days Only: Unlimited Free Listings (https://sellercentre.ebay.com.au/promo/6516) offer?
Go to the bottom of your "All Selling" page and check the "Promotional Offers" section. They have been having a lot of free or reduced fee offers lately (although some have not been any good to us). Overall it has saved us quite a bit in fees, especially when they have had No Final Fee offers.

Thanks Jeff,i did get that offer but i haven't paid listing/insertion fees for years,Today is the first time.
We likewise haven't paid insertion fees for a long while*. Their fee schedule for a non store seller still says "We give you 40 free listings each month. This covers your insertion fee...".
Just checked and we weren't charged any insertion fees for items we listed on Sunday.
Might be worth querying in case they keep doing it to you.
*With the exception of the very occasional month when we might actually have more than 40 listings but that is not often.
Also keep an eye out when you sell items as ebay have been charging me more than the 10.9% for final value fees.
They say it is a computer error but don't do anything unless you contact them to say they have overcharged you.
As soon as I contact them they refund the difference.
They are a bit like the banks; all the computer glitches, procedural errors and such seem to go in their favour.
eBay are going down the drain in Australia which is why these grubs are doing promotions
In Canada and USA eBay are now minnows ,simply put most people use other sites to buy and sell
Re ebay (and others)...
Why do people in charge so often take "the goose that lays the golden eggs" and mistreat/kill them!?!
How stupid do you have to be?
The problem with eBay Australia is simple ... they host too many crooks selling off shed job coins and make it near impossible to report the item specifically as fraud
Yeah, that's a major problem,i have trouble picking many of the Chinese fakes these days,it will ruin the Vintage Coin industry eventually so you would think it would be in Ebay's interest to come down hard on the fakes/replica's.
Trademe is listed on the ASX as well as NZ so i would say they have plans to start up in Oz. eventually and with the sudden spike in the share price someone may have inside Info.
I posted last year that a friend of my Niece's applied for a job with a recruitment Co. that was hiring for a "new and exciting online market place", nothing more has come of it but something is brewing.
Edit...

Bring on TradeMe to Australia I say. I have bought from New Zealand using that site and it is very much a community, like eBay used to be; only better.
