Just after I bought my brand new Ford Territory, I made enquiries at the dealership re from and crash cameras. I was shown to a salesperson, and informed her of my needs. $1200 dollars later after a test run, no film from the rear camera. Sorry sir, you don't have a rear camera. But I told her "that is what I wanted". Sorry sir we don't sell rear crash recording camera. (This ubit now sitting in my garage waiting for it to be used elsewhere).
Blast, waited almost 18 months and through the same dealership but NOT the same salesperson, I was offered a CV-043ABDVR unit, (one can view this item on the internet) and it was subsequently fitted to my car for $660.00. Again, supposedly front and rear camera recording. Again no recording from the rear camera. But sir, you didn't order a rear camera. Oh yes I did and another $256.00 paid out.
For a while, the system worked well. Then, no recording from the rear camera. Out came the techo, fixed it and said all was well.
Drove the car home, removed the SD Card and guess what, no record of the trip from the dealership to home from the rear camera.
Weeks later, same techo, replaces the head unit, (rear view mirror) and the rear camera. All fixed now sir was the reply.
Techo departs, I take the car for a drive and all is well.
Several weeks later, maybe two months, remove the rear camera SD Card and view the files, no record of any trips from the day the techo departed till now.
Phone the suppliers in Qld, techo arrives after a weeks delay, replaces the head unit (again) and replaces the rear camera. All fixed now sir. Wait till I take it out for a drive. Returned and checked the SD card and all is well.
Wife and I do a big three state road trip , Vic-Nsw-Vic and all is well.
A couple of weeks later, I noticed that the head unit was not firing up when the ignition was turned on. Checked the two SD cards, forward camera stopped several days ago and nothing in the reverse record SD card since the previously mentioned test run.
Back to supplier, techo with another gent front up after two-three weeks delay. They sit in the car with the remote control for about and hour and tell me all is well. This was Tuesday, 24 Apr 18. Half an hour later drove the wife down to hospital dropped her off and returned home, turned the car off. Removed both SD cards and read the files. Forward SD Card all ok but the rear, forget it. It recorded ok but the picture had been turned around. What should have been on the left of the screen was now on the right, and vice versa. They fixed it alright, like heck.
Yesterday, Thursday, I phoned the company up in Qld had a rather hard discussion with them to which they were only prepared to refund the cost of the rear camera at $256.00. No good I said, I bought a product that even your own techo cant fix. Go back to the dealership as they said I had bought the unit from the dealership. Not happy as I believed I was getting the run around.
Went back to dealership, had a quiet word with them, told them what I wanted, that is fix the unit 0or total refund. They at my surprise, give me a total refund and it appeared in our bank account late this afternoon.
The unit is still in my car and I have informed the dealership I will return the unit once I have another system installed.
Now, does anyone who is reading this can recommend a front and rear camera recording system for a car that records via the rear vision mirror at a reasonable cost as I still have to pay for installation.
The only unit I have come across is DR750-2CH-16 unit. It involves two separate cameras but they do not give a picture to the rear vision mirror.
Full cost including installation $799.00.
Suggestions and comments gladly accepted.

Some of the units you may have to buy on the net and get an auto electrician to fit it. May be cheaper for you to buy a simple clip on units from JB.
Link appreciated ausproofs.
Some in the link do not ship to Australia though.
Warranties are a little limited.
The one that is being replaced in my car had as five year warranty/guarantee.
No worries GS. Here are some more I found online..

tHANKS AUSPROOFS, BEEN THERE AND HAD A GOOD LOOK BEFORE YOU POSTED ABOVE.
tHANKS ANYWAY.
All good mate. No worries..
Had a BlackVue DR650S-2CH in my old car. Discreet wiring, amazing quality.
Would bang again.
Haven't moved it to my new car cause I'm lazy.
The new BlackVue dr900s-2ch sounded amazing in their original speck, but I believe they removed the third camera before they went into mass production. It was to be 4K front facing, HD rear, and a second camera in the front unit, which filmed the driver.
New cameras installed this day.
For Admin: Please archive this thread.
Wait. We want a report how they performed (and after a period of operation).
Will assume, unless contrary advice, that 'no news is good news'.
OK, delay the archive admin.
Will report in a few days after I have done a few kilometres.
However, tis a pity that the BLACKVUE DR750S-2CH, *the unit I had installed yesterday), does give one a picture on the car's rear view mirror.
I had the other unit for some time and it did and I used to use the picture for reversing in tight places.
Total cost for the unit and installation was $960.00 which included labour costs to fit an old unit,(rear vision mirror), so I can now have a rear view picture when I reverse.
Here are photos of the installed unit:
First, the rear mounted camera and no interference/reduction of view through the rear vision mirror:

Second view of the internal rear vision mirror that has a front and rear view film window from another unit. Totally hides the newly installed front view/recording camera:

I pulled out the Macro SSD card and had a look at the recording.
One word, FANTASTIC.
I have a reversing camera on my 79 series Landcruiser ute that is aimed at the towball and it makes hooking up to a trailer/caravan so much easier.
I have No need for a reverse dash cam because anyone that hits the rear end of a 79 series ute is in a world of pain anyway and very little damage will be done to the ute
