As you all probably know the RAM released a Gold Plated Copper Nickel 50cent coin to commemorate the XXI Commonwealth Games in a coincard. They were $25 a pop, mintage supposedly 20,000.

Well Australia Post, bless em, are also releasing the same coin in a PNC. However they are not Gold Plated, just the standard Copper-Nickel coin. Price is $24.95 and Mintage 7,500 + Free Delivery

If you want the standard non gold plated one it is very low mintage so be quick.

Isn't the standard 50c coming out in change?

Don't know about that, but this PNC says limited to 7,500, so if they do come out in circulation/change that makes a mockery of that mintage figure.
Mike
Thanks for the heads up

Really? Where did you see that?

The standard 50c coin was released into circulation for the Brisbane and Melbourne Commonwealth Games so would have assumed they would have 1 for the Gold Coast.

Hmmmm....Not so sure about that. :scratch_one-s_head:
I don't seem to have any CoA 50c for either 1982 or 2005 from circulation. :dontknow:
I said standard 50c but meant commemorative.

I believe the total figure of 7,500 refers to the total number of PNC's to be issued but not the final mintage of the said coin.
If there is a circulating coin, it could also have a different design, so the 7,500 limit wouldn't apply to it.
I reckon only PNC limited to 7500 not necessarily entire mintage
Very expensive PNC @ $24.95 for a 50c coin
So what are we saying here?
Is there a 7,500 mintage?
Will it be released as a circulating coin?
There will be a circulating commemorative 50c Commonwealth Games coin.
The 7500 for the PNC is just for that particular PNC.
The coin probably be in different packaging with other mintages.
Remember the Queens 90th Birthday 3 coin set made to order, then available individually in PNC's thru the Post Office and a couple of other different packaging.
I sent a message to the RAM and the message and response are shown below:
Message:
"The RAM will be on the road shortly to Tasmania. What is the "special coin" and will it have it's own Counterstamp for each of the places visited? Further, AustPost has a PNC with a Cu-Ni 50c coin in it. Will this particular 50c piece be put into circulation?"
The Response:
"Hi Bruce, we're currently in the process of locking in this years tour and will release the information in coming weeks. There will be an 'Australia' counterstamp coin for this tour. This counterstamp will be used for the duration of the tour. I'll assume you're talking about the GC2018 50c piece, if so then there are no plans to release it into circulation. Thank you."
The last part re the CG 50c piece puts me in an opposite direction to jens coins comment. Sorry Jenny.
Odd - so will there be any circulating Commonwealth Games commemorative coin?

Goldseeker how do message RAM to ask such questions?

I just received the PNC version today. I was so appalled that RAM wasn't releasing them into circulation that I had to go and buy one for myself. I reckon the mint's decided that they don't need any more Commonwealth Games coins in circulation, considering the number of coloured $2 coins they released. Personally, I prefer the coloured $2 coins, but my collection just wouldn't be complete without the 50c. The 1982 Brisbane 50c was one of the very first coins I had in my collection, so I just had to pay homage to it. :winkextra:
So do we assume that there is only 7,500 of this coin??
That the word I have
That's what I said in the initial post.
Mike
That's certainly a very small mintage.
How many Holden & Ford uncoloured fifties were minted, & they are going for stupid prices.
Holden $400
Ford $250
Yet these are still available for $29.90
