It was all over the news here last night.   Giving a little detail as well

For the $5 and $10, I get a whole bundle from RBA and pick out a few.

Getting a bundle would be quite expensive this time. They only take EFTPOS of $1k so if you are after a bundle you need to rock up with $4k in cash.

That's very secure, isn't it? My advice is to get lots of hundreds from another bank so they don't give you strange looks.

Someone is already selling first prefixes of the new $50 on Facebook for $85. :)

So the Reserve Bank are advertising folders now but haven't specified which year the old example will be.

Apparently the folders will contain 2016-dated $50 notes as the old example.
Still haven't seen one in circulation and I'm guessing I probably never will.

You can pre order the folder from Australia Post from today.

My analysis of the pictures I saw back in February show that the first sheet will run from AA to EA, the second sheet from EB to IB and the third sheet (if printed) from IC to MC. Hence, the last prefix must be EA, IB or MC, depending on how many sheets are printed for each serial number. In order to replace all the $50 notes that are currently in circulation, they would need to print one and a half sheets, so I think IB will be the last prefix. :ok:

Mine from RBA are AH and AG. Expensive to hunt down the first and last prefixes with the $50.

Hell, no. Only in Sydney. My advice would be to try Westpac, because they were the ones distributing the new $5 and $10 notes. The other banks only seem to get them second-hand.

Yes in Sydney Martin Place. They have human bank tellers that you can ask for new notes. They will also take EFTPOS.

I went to a Westpac branch today and asked for some - the teller didn't ask if I was a customer (I got asked for the new $10 notes last year though), just said she'd need to disarm the safe which would take a couple of minutes.
I went to the ATM to get a few to swap and they were nice new ones anyway (I remember getting new $5 notes from Westpac ATMs very early, but not the new $10 notes) so I kept them and told the teller not worry about the safe.

I just picked up my first set of the new $50 note today. No prizes for guessing which bank I got them from.

I see our famous lady, Katherine Harris on TV earlier this evening for the second time in a week re the note tonight and the coloured $2 earlier in the week.

And here I was thinking a I had three error notes which I do as well as the other 40 million notes about.

Does anyone know if the newer IA and IB 2018 series had the spelling mistakes fixed? I can't get my hands on one to check.

Not sure - I thought that the spelling mistake was for all of 2018. Haven't heard anything to the contrary anyway.

Someone gave me some $50 notes to look through and I found a 2016 $50 note which was unexpected.

Also, the 2012 seems more uncommon than it should be - I only found one.

Has anyone broken out a microscope to check the spelling on the new 50s yet? I must get around to doing this myself. Next time I get my games computer running and have some $50 notes past EA I'll have a look and post an update.
You'd think that given the error was spotted quickly in the first run that they would have rectified it by the second run that year.

I just checked the $50's that my son & I have, the serials go into the H's and all have the spelling error. 

I'd say it's a pretty fair bet that all $50's for 2018 will be the same.

Thanks, that saves me panicking that I should be looking for some. Now all I have to do is find a first and last Lowe Fraser $20  and a last prefix 2017 $100 note without paying a ridiculous amount.

Yeah they are but most still seem to be in Victoria or South Australia. I auctioned a few off on fleabag and a couple got bought by another fleabag seller. I would have preferred they go to collectors, not someone who is going to resell them for more, but if people don't bid, what can you do?
At least it made me enough to put away some in my collection for essentially free, which was great.

Seems to be a far few IB18 notes around. I got one from the bank the other day too in excellent condition.
Plus I picked up a DA13 $20 note, a few folds but doesn't look terrible. Luckily I got three consecutive ones graded I bought ages back and they all graded 68 so very happy with those. Might put the circulated DA13 up on fleabag when they give me free listings again.

This was interesting reading on the RBA's report.

A couple of months after the new $50 banknote was released into general circulation it was noticed that there was a spelling error in the microprint containing the excerpt from Edith Cowan's maiden parliamentary speech. Despite the misspelling, these banknotes remain legal tender and can continue to be used. The error was corrected in the print run that commenced in mid 2019 and the Reserve Bank and NPA have reviewed processes to reduce the likelihood of such an error occurring in the future.

This means the NEW ones have the error fixed so I need to get the microscope out to check the latest runs.

Went to the bank today to withdraw some money and got 2 x $50 IB18 notes.
Asked the teller if she had any more. She looked thru the draw and said no but had some $50AA notes.
When I got home I had a closer look and they are $50 AA20 notes and the 5 are consecutive.

I saw my first 2020-dated $50 note today.

I've seen quite a few but none of the first or last prefixes I'm after for either set of signatories. They should be MUCH cheaper than what they sell for on eBag. Same with the 2020 $100 notes.

I saw two 2021-dated $50 notes yesterday so they're out there.

I saw two 2023 $50 notes today - one was Bullock/Kennedy but I forgot to check the other (I didn't initially realise there were two signatories).

I got one off each AA23 & EA23 Bullock Kennedy notes from the bank today.

Got my first 2023 Bullock Kennedy $50 note today. Not first or last unfortunately.

Saw another 2023 Bullock during the week.

I wonder how much of a premium the first and lasts are on eBag. Multiple millions of these, they should be nearly face value.

I'm still seeing first and last prefixes listed at a premium.

I would imagine there will always be a premium on first and last issues because they are generally more popular.
The deciding factor is how "over the top" is the premium.

Having trouble working out the difference between predecimal notes that are described as a good VF and an almost EF?? Is there such a grade as almost VF. Ow there's also nearly,predominately and practicaly almost VF. Phew.

Lots of pre decimal notes get called About. About uncirculated. About EF about VF. What it means is it ISN'T uncirculated, EF or VF. Just go down a grade. It is all subjective in most grading with banknotes anyway.

I agree with the about VF but isn't a good very fine the same as a about extra fine.

Yep, I'd agree with that. The difference. Unscrupulous sellers trying to make you believe that about EF is better than VF.
If it is very fine it is not extra fine. It might be a "good" very fine but it is still very fine.
Don't forget banknotes are graded extremely harshly. Any minor imperfection drops a banknote significantly.
Things that can look uncirculated can get graded quite badly.

I looked at some more new $50 notes.

On Sunday there were four 2018, two 2020, a 2021 and a Bullock 2023.

Yesterday there were a bunch but no 2021, and only Bullock 2023 notes (just one I think).

Seen a fair few more and still all Bullocks.

Same with us in New Zealand, depsite the death of coins here, we have a new 2022 dated $50 note, I got a consecutive run of 10 from the ATM, killing my koin show kash last week.

Like you, shows how universal our $50 note is used for everything now. Since 2015 we have had 2 dates of $5 (the 2nd one is 2018 and I have yet to see one), just one lot of $10, 3 lots of $20s (2016, 18, 21) and now 4 lots of $50 (16,18,21,22) and 2 lots of $100 (16, 18).
