Just wanted to see if anyone had any ideas as to how I can possibly get my hands on one of these. E.g. australian dealers who bring UK coins in etc. This is only available at the Royal Mint's visitor centre - similar to RAM's mint your own program.
Here's a link to an article on it if anyone is interested - https://blog.changechecker.org/2018/01/04/could-the-2018-sir-isaac-newton-50p-coin-become-the-rarest-50p-ever/
I first got the 2017 version from my partner as a birthday present, and thought it'd be nice to get the 2018 to compliment it as well. The 2017 one has it's own mintage of 1.8 million, making it the second rarest of the commemorative 50p coins in the UK. However, the prices on eBay are way out of my reach. $100-200 AUD for a 50p coin just does not make sense to me.
Thanks everyone!
Might be hard to get. A few people have enquired about getting these on the
British coin forums on Facebook and the general consensus is "Good Luck".
I have a 2017 coming to me later, but I'm not concerned about the 2018
as it's not for circulation anyway.
Considering how much the 2009 Kew Gardens has gone up in value, these might be the buy of the century at a current $150
I am now reading the folks are booking multiple tours for the same day to strike these 2018 Newton coins so that they can resell them. Reports that the tours are getting filled up rather quickly. Prices seem to go now for £80+.
One thing to bear in mind about this coin which makes it different than the Kew Gardens, is that the 2018 Newton is not being planned to be circulating coin.
Yea, I've been following them on eBay for a bit but the prices are just incredibly steep. I'm hoping when the hype wears off and everyone starts putting them up on eBay, the prices will fall. It's said that this will be available till February, so hopefully as supply rises, prices will fall. The prices are primarily driven by the fact that everyone wants a piece of the 'next Kew gardens'. But yea, as ken-a said, this is not for circulation.
What's the difference between the visitor centre coin and this one you get from website?

Mint mark?
The one on the website is 2017 not 2018

Stupid me.
I reckon the 2017 BU one will sell out soon if the hype continues. The 2009 Kew Gardens BU Coin in it's presentation pack is selling for ridiculous prices considering it's issue price of around 6 pounds if I remember correctly. This particular coin is also pretty appealing to my eye - love the effect the concentric circles give!

Well, the 2017 Newton is still the third rarest after 2009 Kew and 2018 Newton. Going by that graphics in your first post.
Yes it's a very nice coin. I wouldn't mind one. You can order max 5 for flat GBP 12.50 shipping. Not too bad if you amortise it over 5 I suppose.
Royal Mint has some nice designs. Apologies to the off topic police but this is cute: https://www.royalmint.com/our-coins/events/trial-of-the-pyx/
Finally, after about a month of waiting, I am now the proud owner of two of these beauties! :yahoo: And just a side note, but it seems that the Royal Mint's mint your own coin packaging is much more robust than RAM's...

Thanks kchan and redlock! Just short of the piedfort and the gold proof to complete the set hahaha. But I doubt my pockets will ever allow that to happen in the foreseeable future.

Awesome what did that cost?
I got them for about £65 a pop. Think prices have gone down a bit but really it's the postage and handling that's the issue, especially if the seller has not been sending coins overseas before. Got to declare them the right way or they'll be returned.
Hopefully they'll rise in value hahahahaha

Geez that's a lot
I just checked prices on Ebay in the UK and they are going for around £45.50 posted these days. I ended up paying around £32.50 posted for one in a holder with a 2018 copyright date to someone who lives in Wales to get one since I would not be able to make it out there (would involve driving 2 hours there and then another 2 hours back).
I did not think it was a bad price since if I went my costs would have been:
Tour: £13
Fee to strike the coin: £5
Severn Bridge Toll: £6.70 or £5.60 (toll recently went down)
Petrol here costs about £1.23 per litre
