We've just finished researching and compiling the most accurate and up to date list of circulating Australian $2 coins. (If you don't believe me check out the footnotes!)
Circulating $2 Coins (https://www.australian-coins.com/complete-guide-australian-1-dollar-1-coins/circulating-australian-two-dollar-coins/)
I notice on that list that the mintage for the 2011 regular design circ coin is 1,800,000 and the latest Macca's has this mintage at 17,800,000.
Which of these figures is correct as there is a 16,000,000 difference ?

17,800,000
The RAM financial report says 1.8mil, so does the RAM website and also Renniks.
The Basset what do you base your number on?
Based on what has passed my hand (not that I noodle $2) .... I'd reckon the 1.8 is the correct figure.

:agreed:
It has been 6 years since these were released and I cannot remember seeing one in my change at all.
If there were nearly 18 million of these put into circulation then they should be a relatively common find.
Great job on putting that information available PP :good:
Yes, Troutski ..... I think I have 2 put aside somewhere which is a pretty good indication.
I think if referring to the McDonald's mintage it's a (16 million coin) 32 million dollar typo!
The $2 and the 5c were the last Bastions of easy collections especially the $2 coin.
Looks like now the new collectors will only have the 5c coins that they can make a complete inexpensive set out of
My noodling stats point to 1.8 million being the correct mintage for the 2011 $2. I also think the RSL Red Poppy coin and the Woollies coins should be put in a separate table, because they weren't distributed via usual means. Am I able to coin the term "semi-circulating" to describe these? Please excuse the pun. It wasn't intentional.

The distribution of the RSL coins was an absolute Disaster so I have No idea where these should sit
I have a customer at the moment putting a circulation coin set together and for that very reason is not including those coins in the set. Especially the red poppy, high issue price, high current value and difficult to source for one that doesn't want to pay far above FV.

Collecting at FV is pretty much how we all started out in this hobby, I know that I did
I have compiled a list on how to put a $2 coin set together. It includes those not issued into circulation. I have not added possum magic in yet either.

Adding the proofs to the set also ads another dimension to it :)
Just to make things even more complicated, there are also 3 Gold Coast Commonwealth Games $2 coins coming out next year. For this reason, I strongly recommend that anyone wanting a complete set of circulating coins start out with the 5c or 10c rather than the $2. Anyway, I bought the red poppy $2 coin for $10-20 last year, because I realised I had Buckley's hope of finding one in circulation, and wanted to complete the set. :winkextra:
You do know that there are 2 of the red poppy coins, the RSL one and the "C" mintmark one :)
Yes, I'm wrong, as is McD and his source. Has to be 1.8 million. It's an unusual date. You are making too many low-circ and NCLT coins, RAM! I need a heap of new albums.

Pfft! Just because I got slack and held off on the Decimal Mintages update until the new RAM report comes out is no reason to rub my nose in it. :s
Nice work!
The OLYMPIC $2 coins, although released through Woolworths, are NCLT; and are descibed as such by RAM.

Yes they are NCLT But unlike most NCLT issues the Woolies coins are easily found in circulation so the area of NCLT status is somewhat in a Grey area because there are so many in circulation that is probably why they are on PP's list :ok:
When they are put into cash register drawers and given out in change then, for my money, they are circulation coins.
It doesn't matter what the RAM calls them; they have been released into circulation albeit by a different than usual method.

I didn't think of that and it is a pretty Sound argument Jeff :good:

My sentiment exactly.
Thank god they didn't call them "Unicorns". Then we would have had to send any we found to Uni! :mocking:
:laugh2: ..... All donations gratefully received ......
NCLT ..... Nice Coin Like Thingy

I totally agree. :)
