I just noodled a $10 note with a repeater serial number - AL 15 881 881. Unfortunately, it's got quite a few creases in it, so if it weren't for the serial number, I'd put it straight back into circulation. Do you think it's worth holding onto or not? Is there a market for repeater banknotes in Australia?
I think i'd be more tempted to keep it if it was a radar or solid but I haven't been following the market for a while as I stopped collecting notes as they're a bit of a pain storing and the market dropped off a while back and I found I ended up with too much money just sitting there that can be use better in other ways :winkextra: sorry I'm not much help Herc :(

That's the problem I've got at the moment. I sorted through my note collection yesterday, in preparation for the new $10 note, but I've just got so many of them that I think I would have been better off spending them. :winkextra:
If they're not something that's pretty special I'd dump them or offer them to forum members.
Maybe I should compile a list of all the notes I have in my collection and see what everyone else thinks is reasonable. My eyes almost popped out when I realised just how many fifties and hundreds I have. :)

I agree with AJ's comment that notes have been a tad quiet, but that happens.
I'd hate to think of what I've had to put back to the pond, but given the choice to keep it, it would have always been the latter. (After all interest rates aren't great at the moment).
A list would be interesting though, even if just to gather opinions.

I've been putting 1996 $50 notes back into the pond for a while now, but then I read in Maccas last week that they're worth at least $110 each, so now I'm going to have to keep every single one I find, even if it destroys my budget. :dash1:

I hang onto the 1996 $100 test note range and sell them if I can. Sometimes they sell, sometimes they don't. Usually it would be only a $125 sale, so after fees you've made $10 ..... but to me $10 is $10.
To me $10 is $15 seeing we are off to Fiji again soon. LOL

If the '8' was a '3' or vice versa it would be a nice six digit radar but that number not interesting enough.

That is a repeater (881 twice) which some collectors seek so worth keeping -or selling if you don't want it- unless in very poor condition.

In 2008 the $50 note prefixes went as high as MD - in fact the MD08 last prefix is quite valuable, as there were only 50,000 printed.

Not really sorry as there's no first or last prefix and no radars so only really worth keeping if you can get the rest of the prefixes, might be worth a small premium being unc but I think that's about it unless someone want a very small run.

:cray: now I feel bad, so sorry for busting your bubble kchan but I was mainly looking at the prefix and serial number as that's what seems to add the most value to notes, besides condition :winkextra: BUT I'm sure if you put them on feebay someone is sure to buy them :)
Now this last lot would have to be worth a few bucks being radars and it's a real shame you don't have the DJ to make the set bigger but still good to have :good:

Not sure about the sellability of the serial numbers.
I think the $50 depends on condition more than anything - I think some of the early decimal last prefix notes are worth a bit (because no one was too sure what the last prefixes were at the time).

Not a radar note collector but given how battered that one is, I'd say it is worth $10. Even if it was a first or last serial, I'd be loathed to pay more than $10 for it because it will grade very low.
In change a $5 note, serial AK161061060. Not quite a full repeater or radar but it did make me pay attention.
Rather creased so not a keeper.
Anyone interested in this repeater?
Good for 13 years and quite clean except for what looks like a food stain to the left of the 50.
